DD is still RF and is 2 yrs and 2 months old. I want to at least get through the winter with her RF but will probably turn her FF in the spring when she's 2 and a half.
I would keep her RF forever if I could but we have a small car and it's just hard with her RF. Don't get me wrong I will do it as long as is necessary but her legs are starting to get really squished and when DH drives he can't push his seat back enough to be comfy since his seat hits DD's carseat. We have DS RF on the passenger side so we can't switch her to the other side.
Also, she drags in tons of snow and gunk on her feet and the seat is filthy from her boots rubbing against it. We put one of those covers for the back of the seat for when LOs kick it but she still gets around it.
There's a small chance I might change my mind in the spring since I won't have to worry about her kicking snow all over the seat anymore but the car will still seem cramped so I'm not sure.
I'm going to hate turning her FF but feel like I will have to in the next few months. If you ERF, when do you plan on turning your LO around?
Re: If you ERF- when will you finally turn LO around?
DS turned 3 in Dec and is still RF. At this point, I'd be ok turning him FF but since he still fits RF and it's still working fine, we're not planning to turn him now. Maybe this summer. FF at 2 is a lot safer than FF at 1, but they're still much safer RF.
What kind of vehicle do you drive and what seat is she in? Sometimes there are tricks to get the seat more upright to give the front seat occupants more room. Remember that older babies and toddlers dont need their seats to be at the same angle as what's indicated on the seat because that is meant for newborns. Most convertible seats allow you to install them at up to a 30 degree angle instead of 45 degrees. Let me know if you need help.
Hey Emilie, thanks for your reply. I drive an Elantra and it's a Cosco Scenera. You actually helped me on here to figure out how to properly install it without it wobbling from side to side.
Let me know if there's any tips to make it sit upright more, I think it is reclined a bit, I remember when we installed it, it reclined to go RF and sat upright a little more when FF.
Probably right around 2. We have a tiny car (beetle) and having a RF convertible leaves my passenger (usually DH, occasionally other family/friends) dangerously close to both the windshield and the airbag. While it's not ideal and I would prefer to keep her RF to the limits of her radian, I'm balancing whole family safety and feel that at age 2 it's enough safer for her to be FF versus RF that it is no longer worth risking DH's safety by having him so close to the airbag and windshield.
We spent all summer trying to sell the car for a variety of reasons, including being able to keep her RF longer, but couldn't find a buyer, so it is what it is.
Probably not until he outgrows the limits which I doubt will be before 3. He's very happy rear facing so I don't see a reason to switch things up.
Also, when I flip him, I'll have to take down the dog guard (we have an Outback) to be able to tether his seat forward facing - which creates a whole new slew of problems...
