My midwife thinks that this is probably the cause of our losses and I want to do as much research as possible on it. Thank you for your help.

Re: translocation? (pics/tics)
I'm sorry for your losses. My second m/c was due to an unbalanced translocation. My husband and I had our chromosomes tested and ours were fine, so it seems the issue was just bad luck. Even though it's simplistic, I found this blog post useful to understand what might have been going on: https://julia.typepad.com/julia/2005/05/balanced_transl.html.
Can I ask why your midwife thinks this is the case? Did you have your miscarriages tested?
My niece has 1 p 36 deletion and 7 q duplication syndrome. One part of the 7th chromosome duplicated and translocated to the first chromosome where part of it was missing. I know quite a bit about her chromosome abnormalities, but not much about other kinds of translocation. This is quite rare and she is the only documented case ever of having both abnomalities together. My sister sees a genetic counselor at the Cleveland Clinic and this was just a chance event and can't be traced back to anything that she might pass on.

Thanks ladies. My midwife said this based on my medical history and nature of my losses and experiences with my pregnancies with my boys that she thought it was probably very likely. I do trust her insight as she has been doing it for quite some time but obviously we don't have a definitive answer since the testing is so expensive and will not really change the outcome.
I will page you Brenn in a few moments and also will see if I can get ahold of shemico as well.

TICKER WARNING.
I felt my ears burning
Story in siggy and link to bio, but in a nut shell: 1 healthy DD (may or may not have balanced translocation), followed by 4 losses (my translocation discovered after the 3rd) and now almost 36 weeks with DD#2 (who has the same balanced translocation as me).
If this is the issue, what it comes down to is each pregnancy you have a 50/50 shot of having it succeed (either normal or with the same balanced transclocation).
Unfortunalty those odds don't change with each pregnancy. There are some people that will have no losses and some that will have dozens.
Its usually advisable to have CVS or Amnio done in pregnacy as well, as some peoples translocations can lead to unbalanced transclocations where it may cause a later loss, still birth or very severe disability. I opted for an amnio in this pregnancy.
Please feel free to PM me with any questions.
