Pregnancy = stupidity?

Is anyone else starting to believe that "pregnancy brain" is real? Case in point: I threw out my gloves the other day. I got into work, took off my gloves and casually tossed them in the garbage as if that were exactly what I intended to do. Then I felt incredibly stupid fishing them out. I still have no idea what possessed me to do that. Please tell me I'm not alone in this!

Re: Pregnancy = stupidity?

  • Yup!  I think it was back in 2nd tri in the course of 1 week where I 1) left my cell phone in a sweater pocket & threw the sweater AND cell phone in the washer (although I kept mentally telling myself "take cell phone out of pocket...take cell phone out of pocket) and left my pocket book in the pizza place across the street from my office--luckily I realized this as soon as I walked into my office building & was able to run back & get it.

    I used to have a mind like a steel trap & now...I have to set reminders on my cell phone to call my hair dresser to make an appt.

  • Yesterday at work someone asked me about good places to eat in town.. where I've lived my whole life.. and I couldn't think of the name of a single one! It was so embarassing! Luckily she was like "it's okay.. you're pregnant.. it happens!" lol!

  • Yeah this is not only happening to you. The one day I went to the grocery store and forgot why I was there and what I needed. I since then have had to start writing things down. But of course a list doesn't help when you don't remember to bring it! lol

  • I keep reminding DH to feed the dogs, thinking I'm being oh so helpful. He than points out that he already fed them and that I was in the room when he did it.
  • I totally experience this too. Sometimes when I'm serving at the restaurant I work at, I put orders in wrong and I have no memory of doing it. It's terrible. lol.

  • yep- I am pretty sure I do at least one pretty stupid thing every day :)
  • Yeah, I keep using the wrong words when referring to things (interchanging nouns, etc.)  My husband is getting very confused ... :)

  • I am constantly getting up to do something, I walk to wherever it is that I need to go to do such thing, and then I just stand there staring blankly... trying to remember what the heck I got up for. It's very frustrating.

  • Deffinately not just you!  About 2 months ago I lost a box of Captain Crunch... How? Well, I poored myself a bowl, put it away and went to eat. When I went the next day to have some, I could not find it ANYWHERE... I looked in the fridge, every room in the house... all I could think is maybe I threw it away. Well, about a week ago I was getting a mixing bowl out from the very back of my lower cabinets... All the way in the back BEHIND all the mixing bowls, pots and pans was my captain crunch. I have no idea why I would have put it there, I don't remember doing it. I am totally baffled by myself lol!

    I told my husband about it and he looked at my like I had 3 heads! Pregnancy brain is deffinately real!

  • Yep! I haven't done anything silly yet but I forget stuff constantly!

  • I've read that it's real (although some debate this) and it has something to do with the baby taking all the fatty nutrients (not sure exactly what I'm saying here) out of your diet so they can form their brains.  Mine did not jump back to normal once ds was born (I was so sleep deprived at that point).  A friend told me it really goes back to "normal" after two years (she's on baby #3).

    My most recent example: I just pulled the van into the garage tonight, put it in park, turned the lights off, shut the garage door, hopped out, opened the door to get ds...and stopped.  I had forgotten to turn off the van. Who does that???

  • Two incidents of leaving my purse behind: once at a friend's house, and once in a restaurant.  Now, if I take my purse into a restaurant, I don't hang it behind me, I put it on the floor where I'll kick it, or on the bench next to me, where I have to move it to leave the booth.

    I also left my debit card in the ATM the other day.  That was really brilliant.  At least the person behind me was nice enough to say something.
