Birth story-Joshua is here!

Hi ladies,

So hopefully not a long post. Last night I was admitted to the hospital at 1 am, but only 3 cm dilated and 90% effaced. They said I was progressing well during the day and the baby is big they wanted to monitor me before they sent me home. Long story short, I was progressing slowly for me, good enough for them. The contractions were from hell, and I opted for an epidural at 8 am when I was 6-7 dilated. It was from heaven after a night of holding on to DH's arm and crying "I'm not sure how i'm going to do this." The epi didn't slow down my labor and I didn't need petocin, but the baby was being stubborn and didn't react well to my contractions. His heartbeat kept dropping lower whenever the contractions got stronger and he refused to come out when I pushed. Thankfully, my doctor was aware of his heart rate dropping and didn't make me push too much, we waited for him for a few hours before pushing to descend all the way down on his own but he refused. They suspected problems with his cord and after consultation we went in for a c-section. Nothing was going how i wanted it, I opted for an epi and now I'm doing a c-section. Freaked me out. But baby and his health were most important. I've never had surgery before and the experience was pretty intense, but quick and seeing him come out was the best thing ever. He did have the cord wrapped around his neck and was sunny side up so his nose is all squishy! Anyways, Joshua came in at 3:50 pm, 8 lbs and 3 oz, and 20.5 inches long. I think he's the best baby ever. We're getting used to him and breastfeeding is a little challenging but not horrible. I felt my experience was pretty intense on all facets but I had the best nurses and doctors and that really helped. FYI- You don't care about your hair, toes, grooming, or pooping. Thankfully I didn't do the latter. You'll be uncomfortable but then you kinda just let it go.

I wish all the ladies expecting babies this Feb a wonderful delivery with good staff and support systems and most of all healthy squishy nosed babies! Will post pictures when home.
