New Drug to Prevent Preterm Birth - Anyone heard of this?

I just ran across this article. I would be interested to hear the thoughts of some of our preemie moms. The FDA's "accelerated" approval process worries me a bit but preterm birth is such an enormous problem in this country I am glad to see something new and promising coming down the pike. At least it is progress.

  • I of course am extremely interested in this study! I have talked to a few girls who experienced similar stories to mine and are pregnant again or have had babies since. Quite a few of them received these shots. Now who really knows if it were the shot that helped them stay pregnant or if they would have went on to have healthy pregnancies without it, but I know I will be asking for these! I've talked to my OB about them and he's doing research for me and said he will be ready with an answer when I get pregnant again and come to see him. Hopefully by the time I finally get pregnant he won't have forgotten everything! :/ on the pprom website 17p shots are highly suggested.

  • I just heard about this new drug yesterday in the news. Like Moesten, I am a little skeptical about the FDA's quick approval process, but I feel like it's certainly a step in the right direction to help prevent the huge increase in preterm deliveries.

Since I didn't have pProm with DD, but HELLP syndrome, the weekly hormone injections this PG were not suggested by my OB. I am praying that I am able to carry my baby girl to term this time, and I hope other moms can do the same perhaps with the aid of this new drug.
