I love these shows! Even though we are way past the wedding planning days I just love watching these. I think it's because I love weddings.
But man, what some of these girls pay for their dresses. WTF. I will say three years later I am very glad we set a budget and stuck to it. There is just no need to spend that whack amount of money on a wedding!
In the time since we got married I am often struck by the irony that the part of marriage that gets the big party and celebration is the start of it when in reality it seems the anniversaries are what is deserving of the fanfare, kwim? Getting married is easy. Staying married is the hard part.
Re: Anyone else watch Say Yes to the Dress & 4 Weddings?
I couldn't agree more. BTW (and somewhat unrelated, perhaps) are you familiar with John Gottman (couples therapist)? I'm going to see him speak in D.C. in March. Your perspective on marriage always reminds me of his theoretical orientation. He's my favorite.
We went to the John Gottman "Bringing Baby Home" workshop while we were still in Seattle

Baby Sister is coming soon!
Did you love him?! I really enjoyed the last presentation I saw of his when I lived in Virginia. For that one, he and his wife presented together, which made it even more interesting. I really want to get certified in his therapeutic approach, but it's a lot of money, not to mention the time commitment. Someday, when I'm independently wealth, maybe...
I love these shows too.... Some of the more expensive dresses are gawdy to me LOL I spent $600 on mine I loved it.
I tend to like the less expensive weddings too on 4 weddings. Last week's episode was great with all the "no, no's"
I watch say yes to the dress. I love how horrified the staff gets when the bride's dress budget is under $5K - like she needs to hit the poorhouse.
That's because you're a genius.
Yes, I am familiar with Gottman's work. That's awesome that you get to see him speak. Is he a keynote speaker or is he running a workshop? Either way he's someone definitely worth seeing. Enjoy!
I, too, would do a completely different wedding. But DH disagrees. He thinks our wedding was awesome and wouldn't change a thing. Go figure. I would have stuck with our original plan which was to get married on a cruise and whoever wanted or was able to join us was welcome.
Remind me to tell you my wedding dress confession one day.
I have an issue with this week's episode. It seems incredibly wrong to me to have a wedding with a $150,000 budget (Egyptian Extravaganza) and one with a $20,000 budget (Brazilian Carnival) in the same episode. Seems like apples and oranges, no? I get that they choose people based on geography but I think they need to at least be in the same ballpark, budget-wise.
I watch the re-runs of Say Yes, but haven't ever seen 4 weddings.
I would do my dress all over again if I could...it just needed to fit better.
I agree with the outlandish budgets on the dresses! Some of them cost as much as my wedding did!
