Baby Names

middle name for Henry?

DH and I don't know what we're having, yet, but if it's a boy we want to name him Henry, but are unsure about a middle name. We were thinking about James after DH's grandfather, but there is the author Henry James, and I wonder if that is weird. What do you think?

TIA!

Re: middle name for Henry?

  • We are going to use Henry Benjamin for a future LO.  Henry for my greatgrandpa and Benjamin is DH's name.

  • Henry James is a classic author, so I don't think you can go wrong, even with that association (It's not like you're naming him Stephen King or something!). I love the name Henry.

  • I love family names and think Henry James sounds really good together and honors your DH's grandfather too. I would never have thought of Henry James the author when hearing that name.

  • Henry James was a fabulous author, so even if you get people who make the association, it isn't a bad one. Also, James was Henry James' last name. Not his middle name. So, no one will even make this connection because your Henry has a different ln.

  • Thanks for all your input! Henry is also a family name, so that's part of why I liked the combo. He (if it's a he) will be named after two grandfathers :).
  • My nephew is Henry James.  I also know a Henry Brock, Henry William (x 3) and a Henry Joseph.

  • A nod to the author and to family isn't necessarily a bad thing. Henry James is a great name. Go for it.
