Sleepy baby = no time for tummy time?

Hello. Has anyone else felt this way? LO fusses, I change him, feed him, and then he falls asleep. Three ours pass, and we do the same thing again.

!?!?!

He hasn't had a real bath yet [just sponge bath w/warm cloth while sleeping.. lol], and has only had 4 short doses of tummy time. Pedi says it's fine.. so I'm not worried, but I guess I was wondering if anyone is in the same boat?

And when did you LO start being more awake? This guy was awake for a whole hour yesterday evening. I felt like I was meeting him for the first time all over again!

Re: Sleepy baby = no time for tummy time?

  • DS is only awake for about 1 hr at a time (which includes the 45 minute feeding, 5 minutes for diaper/outfit change, and 10 minutes of "play" time).

Because he's STARVING when he wakes up, we feed him right away, and so even though he is awake for about 10 minutes after the bottle, I don't put him on his tummy right after he ate, so he's not done more than 5 minutes of on-the-floor tummy time in his whole life. BUT, tummy time can also be where your LO lays on your chest.

  • That sounds normal for a 3 week old.  I would lay LO on my chest and he would fall asleep.  I still do this in the morning in my bed.  He did very little tummy time on the floor prior to being a month old.

  • Yeah 150% of my awake time is changing, feeding, and trying to coax her back to sleep.

  • Sounds about right to me.
