Parenting after 35

Announcement on FB

A friend just announced yesterday that she is expecting on 9/22.  I am totally happy for her, so please don't think this is a jealousy post.  My point is, would you ever announce that early?  According to my calculation, that makes her 7 weeks.  I know it's her choice, and she is obviously over the moon excited!

Re: Announcement on FB

  • I never would. I think that people who have never struggled to TTC or had a miscarriage don't think about what could go wrong.

One of DH's friends recently had to make an announcement on FB about a miscarriage because they had announced as soon as they got a BFP. I would hate to be in that situation.

  • Even I, the queen of over-sharing, did not tell anyone besides all you "strangers" (at least then) on the Bump (because I HAD to tell somebody) that early. DH and I told our immediate family when I was 8 weeks along. My BFF and closet friends at 11 weeks. And I announced on FB after my NT Scan when I felt comfortable enough to do so -- almost 2nd trimester.

  • I only told you guys when I got my BFP, and DH of course. I even waited to tell our parents until I was almost a month along. Everyone else heard about it after 12 weeks. I'm superstitious :)
Me: 44 DH: 42. DS born healthy at 40 weeks 8/24/09. TTC since then with no luck or ART. Surprise BFP 8/6/14... MMC @ 8 weeks 4 days... Miss you everyday sweet baby angel.

I don't know about that. Even though I never had a MC or TTTC I was keenly aware that everything could go wrong.  We waited until I was 13 weeks to tell people (with the exception of parents earlier).

But I think the excitement and emotion takes over the rational side for people.

  • We haven't told anybody apart from parents. We are waiting until 13 weeks or longer. Last time I waited until I was 4 months along. I would also hate to 'un-announce' on FB should something happen.

  • I wouldn't.Our families and close friends knew about M right away, but I didn't tell everybody else till the 2nd tri.
  • I'm with everyone else, second trimester!

Congratulations to her, though, and I hope her pregnancy is happy and healthy!

  • We didn't tell anyone.. not even my mom.. until 2nd tri.
I think some people who are not as, um, "mature" as us may be more likely to rush to make the announcement.   And by mature, I mean old and seasoned!  HA

  • We announced at around 12 weeks after CVS results came back. With Jason we announce even later - around 16 weeks. Guess her rationale was, after you see the h/b on the 1st u/s and all the measurements are ok, it's safe to make an announcement.

  • We waited until I was almost 4 months to tell the general public. I told my mom, my boss and a couple of close friends/co-workers but we were very superstitious.

I have two friends who told everyone the minute they POAS and they both miscarried. The next time they got pregnant they waited.

  • No, no, no. Not until 2nd tri.

  • Not on something like FB - I'm a terrible facebooker though. Close friends and family knew about Ada right away - if something had happened I would have really needed their support.
