Kick Count at 39 weeks??

I am waiting for the doctor's office to call back (apparently all the nurses are on lunch). I realized about an hour ago that I don't remember feeling the baby move this morning. I'm sure I'm over re-acting but I am still a little worried.

I have been having frequent Braxton Hicks (5-10 minutes apart) and tons of lower abdomen pressure. Plus I've been sick since Wednesday. So maybe that's part of it?

Anyways, has anyone recently talked to their doctor about what to expect, kick count wise, around 39 weeks? Should it still be 10 every 2 hours or less since I'm getting so close to my due date?

Thanks Ladies!

Re: Kick Count at 39 weeks??

  • I was never told to do kick counts but instead just take notice of movement straying from the usual pattern.  I had a couple of off-nights so I went in for monitoring yesterday and they said baby looked great.  I'm very glad I went because I had another off-night last night, and I would have been freaking out had I not gone in already (everything is shut down now due to the winter storm).  Anyway, my point is that I'm also at 39 weeks (almost 40) and I've had a little reduction, too.  Have you tried drinking anything ice cold or sweet to get the baby to move?  If you start to get a bad feeling, definitely call the doctor, or if they are not available, go to the hospital to get checked.  I hope everything is fine.

This is what I was going to suggest .I also heard to lay on your left side after you drink something sweet/cold.

  • When I spoke with my doctor yesterday he reminded me that I needed to be getting 4-6 kicks per hour. At least with my little guy, a glass of ice cold OJ hasn't failed me yet!
  • I've been laying on my left side and I've had some juice and some chocolate and I've gotten a few movements since then. I'm feeling better about the movement...I'm going to continue laying down and see what happens.

    Thanks ladies!

  • I was sick last week and felt like the baby didn't move as much. Besides my doctors appointments, I have weekly scheduled non stress tests. At the last one, the nurse said there should not be decreased movement. She said I should still feel 6-10 movements per hour. Drinking and eating help, as well as laying on my left side. Good luck.

  • I think I can go for an hour without feeling anything and if he as fine now as he was yesterday morning, then no movement for an hour doesn't necessarily mean anything.  I'll be so glad when he comes out and I can see him, though.  I know I will have all new worries after delivery, but worrying about something you can't see and touch is getting old!

  • At my appointment with the  MFM last week, he told me to look for 6-10 movements between each meal.
