We thought that we were being good parents and waiting until this morning to call the doctor because Michael got worse as the day went on, coughing, wheezing, some vomiting (mostly what he had just drank out of the bottle and snot), low-grade fever. Did not want to go to the ER in the middle of the night for a cold. Found out this morning that our doctor is in California and her nurse is sick so no one was there to answer the phone. I finally decided at 10:30 to just walk in and they called our house after I got to the office and found the door locked!!! GRRRR!!!!! So ended up in ER anyway. And the doctor was the one that I got into a fight with on the phone several months ago because he was being a demanding whiney baby wanting me to drop everything and come to the ER and do a psychological consult and file commitment papers on a patient there for FREE. (sigh) Michael got very good care from him and he has what could become broncial pnemonia if we had not gotten him in there. He has had a shot and a baby z-pac. He has a follow up appointment with the doctor covering for my doctor. At 4pm the ER doc called and said the GP wanted M to have a neublizer. Did you know that pharmacies sell the medication but not the machines? The closest medical arts store is 20 minutes away and the paper prescription that I needed is 35 minutes away and I found this out at 6pm. Michael is sleeping with the humitifier on tropical rain forest setting and his bed propped up as far as it can go without him sliding all the way to the bottom. Everyonen keep their fingers crossed that I get more than the 2 or 3 hours that I got last night.

Hope Michael feels better!
Your pedi should have an answering service and if she/he is away the calls should be transferred directly to the pedi covering for her/him, especially if the nurse is away too. Was it not the case? It doesn't make any sense for them to just go away and abandon their patients who call the office with issues. This is unprofessional.
Oh, poor M. I hope is starts feeling better very soon. And that everybody gets some sleep.
