I am just wondering what, if anything, some of you might be doing right now to help try and bring on labor. I'm not ready to start trying things yet, but I do have an induction scheduled for February 13th and I am really trying/hoping that I go into labor on my own before then.
I have a big baby who has measured two weeks ahead most of this pregnancy, I'm already dilated and effaced (1.5 cm as of last Wednesday, so 9 days ago and 50% effaced). My doctor doesn't want me going past my due date and does his scheduled inductions on Sundays, which is why it's falling when it is. I'm really trying to avoid needing this though...
So what is everyone doing? Does anything actually seem to be working? I do think that DH and I will try to have sex but other than that I'm kind of at a loss.
Re: What are you doing to naturally induce labor?
In the last few days I have been walking, doing housework, had sex with DH, and drinking raspberry leaf tea (strengthens the uterus).
Nothing too extreme, or out of the ordinary for me, but cognitively aware I'm doing more of those things trying to get things going.
Most people will say that there is nothing you can do to induce labor itself uless you body is ready... that being said, I have been walking like a fool, lots of housework, etc I have also tried Sex and EPO. I would like to think the EPO or sex has had something to do with the softening and opening of the cervix, but I have yet to have any significant contractions or signs of labor. I am fully expecting to go up to my induction date in a week. The waiting stinks especially when you are considered post term and people won't stop asking when the baby is coming...

I gave up as of yesterday and am just letting things happen.
Dh and I had been having sex almost every day for a good 10 days and up until this past Sunday or so, then skipped a few days and had sex again yesterday, thinking that would surely put me into labor (I am 5cm dilated/80% effaced as of 5 days ago!). And I found myself in horrendous pelvic pain for hours afterwards. Not even contractions, just pain! So I am done. At least with sex. And according to my OB, having sex is the single most effective way to start labor.
My OB also advised against EPO because it can cause tetanic contractions/hyperstimulate your uterus. Same goes for nipple stimulation and is only supposed to be done while you're being monitored. She also told me to stay away from castor oil.
I've been eating lots of pineapple, eaten spicy food, and I even made the eggplant parmesan last week and ate it for 3 days straight, lol. Been drinking lots of red raspberry leaf tea as well.
I danced yesterday (Wii Just Dance 2) and I have been bouncing on the yoga ball for at least a week, doing circles, pelvic rocks, all that stuff.
Had my membranes stripped on Monday as well and have been losing MPs for two weeks, and had bloody show a few days ago. Big fat nada.
Bottom line: if your body doesn't *want* to go into labor, it simply won't. Even with a gaping 5cm cervix.
(((
I am so over it, lol.
By the way, my baby is also estimated to be big (+8.5lbs at 40 weeks) but we are not talking about induction until 42 weeks. Although my doc already offered to break my water right now if I wanted it.
If it comes down to it, I may try nipple stimulation using my breast pump when I get to around 40 weeks. I've heard that can start or strengthen contractions. I can't remember exactly but it seems like you are supposed to stimulate for 10 minutes then stop for 20, repeated for an hour but I'd have to double check the times.
I've decided nothing works. I tried eating pineapple and mango, take EPO, that silly but delicious eggplant parmesan recipe, spicy food, foot massages and a pedicure, bouncing on the birthing ball, walking, nipple stimulation for 10 minutes+ (which just makes them super sensitive for days), orgasm, and today I tried being really active by cleaning all day, and NOTHING. Not even a damn contraction today.
I've had 2 spouts of false labor, and when I had my appt. on wednesday I was only 70% effaced, not dilation, and my cervix was still really high even though the baby has dropped (not sure how that works exactly.) So... good luck, but I don't think its possible anymore.

I don't believe anything works. My doctor was very optimistic that I was close during my appointment Tuesday but nothing, not sex, spicy food, yoga ball, bumpy road driving or walking, has worked for me. I'm hoping to go into labor on my own over the next week because I very much want to avoid the induction that will be scheduled if I reach my due date...
Tonight I'm going to do some intense chores (chinchilla cage cleaning) so maybe that will help...
Went for a long walk earlier and we'll probably start having sex again tonight. I also just got my birthing ball out to sit & bounce on for a bit. I figure that even if those things don't induce labor because my body isn't "ready", at least they are good for me anyway. Maybe it won't start contractions right now, but if the sex even slightly helps to "prepare" my cervix for when they want to induce me, I'll be glad for that little boost. Plus, the walking & birth ball are good for a bit of exercise and loosening the pelvis. And the sex is always good for morale!
Good luck!
