Moms-to-be with tall baby daddys

So my husband is 6'7" and I'm so afraid our kid is gonna come out 4" tall! LoL. The last ultrasound we had (monday) showed a good view of the baby's feet, and they are sooo long! That means the kid is gonna be tall! Anyone else with tall husbands??

Re: Moms-to-be with tall baby daddys

  • My husband is 6'2" (so yours has five inches on him!), and our son is in the 97% for height at one year. So get ready for a tall kid, most likely! But not 4" at birth, lol.

We're pretty tall in my family, too. I'm the shortest at 5'6".

  • I'm certain our child will be tall. My husband is almost 6' tall, I'm 5'10", and I come from a family of tall people. (My dad is 6'2" and my 18yo brother is almost 6'5". I'm prepared to have a long baby.

I'd rather have my child come out long and lean than short and chubby, though. I just think everything will come out more easily. However, my husband was 8.5lbs at birth and he had a big head, so I'm probably screwed either way. I just hope this kid takes after me. Stick out tongue

I feel the same way! My husband said the kid's feet are gonna be hangin out at 8 months. LoL

  • My DH is 6'5" and our son was born at 21 and 1/2 inches.  Totally normal.  He did have HUGE feet.  He was immediately in 1-2 year socks.  He is now 2 and is off the charts tall.  Baby will be normal size thoughStick out tongue

  • MH is 6'3" (I am only 5'3"). DD was a mini as an infant (but with looooooong legs and feet) but now that she is 3, she is off the charts tall -- bigger than most kids a year older! Luckily that didn't kick in until she was about 1 though, as a fetus she was tiny, which is good because not only am I short, I am short waisted.

  • My husband is 6', which is short compared to your husbands, but I am 5' so to me he seems pretty darn tall.  Hes also 280 pounds, hes not fat hes just a giant man.  His pinky is larger than my two thumbs together.  Im so scared of our baby.

    SURPRISE! Here comes #3!
  • My ex husband is 6'4". Our son was the largest child I had! He was 8 lbs 6 oz and 23 inches long.

My fiance, now, is 6'5". So is his dad and brother.

  • I'm 5'9 and not a small gal; DH is 6'4 and 280 pounds. We have a history of large (read: 9+ pound) babies in our family. As others have said, the idea of delivering long babies doesn't bother me as much as delivering large-headed, wide babies. Yet another reason why I don't think natural birth is in the cards for me!

  • My DH is 6'5... check out this boy's legs!   They are already super long, so everyone says I'll probably go early.  Funny story, first time the doctor saw my husband, he just looked at me and said Good Luck.  Oh dear!

  • My DH is 6'6". I am 5 foot even. Ridiculous, I know. He keeps telling me that our child is going to be as tall as I am by the age of 2. I'm kind of hoping that by combining tall genes and short genes, we'll have a normal-sized kid.

The length of your LOs legs amaze me...the u/s makes it look like you are smuggling a 5 year old in there.

    LOL at the doctor's reaction!

  • DH is 6'1" and DS as of yesterday's 2 yr check up is in the 71% for his height...he has been above 50 since he was born.

He was 21inches long when he was born...and has had HUGE feet also.

  • DH is 6'2" but I'm 5'4".  DS was 20 inches and 8 lbs 2 oz so not small but not big.  What' funny is that my Mom is really tiny and my Dad is just medium height and both my brother and I were whoppers.

Not always true. I'm 5'10 and DH is 6'4 and DS came only 2 days early. He was 8lb on the dot and 21.5" long. One of the first things the nurses said though was "whoa look at his feet!" lol! They are big just like ours. He has been above 95% for height. I'm waiting for #2 to come out super short lol...

  • I am 5'11 and my DH is 6'2. DD is in the 97% for height and when she was born, she was 20.5 inches and 8.9 pounds and she was three weeks early! :) But...DH was 12lbs10oz when he was born! OUCH!!

*shrugs* Both of my sister in laws (who are married to my husbands two brothers) both went early last year, and their babies are H U G E. I may be just be secretly hoping I go as early as healthily possible, but at the same time, I was 10 pounds when I was born and my husband was 9. Pretty sure I know this babe is going to be above average either way.

  • I worry about the same thing. I am 6'1 and my husband is 5'11. My dad is 6'8, brother 6'5, mom 5'9, sister 5'8. And DH family is tall too. So I would be very surprised if we ended up with a little baby!

Yikes, on your behalf. Your family history is probably a bigger predictor than your current heights or how long little one's legs look. My son is a stringbean- long legs, skinny kid. He came 5 days late. Actually, he was forced out (induced)- who knows how long he'd have hung around in there.

It is amazing what the body can accommodate!

But... get ready for some serious kicks from those long legs. They're coming.

  • DH is 6'1 and DD was only 20" when she was born. She has always been on the tall/skinny side though. She's in the 95th precentile for height and taller than all the other kids in her class.

I'm worried about the weight though. DH's family has these huge 10lb babies and I'm worried that this one is going to be one of those!

Haha Yeah I know. I felt my first kick yesterday, it didn't hurt yesterday (obviously still too small) but it was unmistakable. I'm really looking forward to my 20 week ultrasound to see how much bigger he/she has gotten. :)

Its not too ridiculous. I'm only 5"5' and my husband is 6"7' ...I come up to his belly button! Haha. I think I would rather have tall boys..than tall girls. If we have a boy, maybe he will be good at basketball like the hubby and maybe he will get himself into college. haha.

  • My hubby is 6'5" with size 15 feet, and when he was born he weighed almost 10 pounds (possibly from undiagnosed gestational diabetes in my MIL) and had GIGANTIC shoulders. So yeah, I'm a tiny bit worried about LO running out of room if he/she takes after dad at all, lol.
