Babies: 3 - 6 Months

What's the longest your BF baby has gone without pooping?

My LO use to go multiple times a day, then it decreased to once a day, and now its been 6 days. I've read that it is normal for a change after starting solids, and that they can go up to 10 days.  He doesnt act like he's in pain.  Just wodering about others' experience with this.  1ht

  • DS just went 5 days.  When he did finally go, it was massive and stunk.  He did seem to be in a bit of discomfort from it and he had pretty stinky gas before he finally went.

  • I EBF and my DD has gone 5 days.  It was so unlike my DS who pooped almost every time I nursed him....a lot!  She doesn't seem uncomfortable now, just extremely gassy, and it is not averaging every 3-4 days.  We haven't introduced solids and don't plan to for another 2 months.

    Don't worry!

  • He's never gone more than 36 hours without pooping, even after starting solids. I've heard it can be normal to go a few days in between though, we've just never experienced that.
  • 8 days. I was a little freaked.

  • I think the longest he's gone is 4 days and it was disgusting and a blowout when he finally did. Now he's on day 3 of not pooping again but seems just fine and is a happy boy.
  • 13 days but now it is usually once a week.  when it happens, it REALLY happens.
  • Ha - MAYBE she's gone 6-8 hours....yes hours, not days....without pooping.  Daycare just called too, to let me know they were almost out of diapers for her!

  • We haven't started solids yet. Our LO is 21 weeks and since 4 weeks old she has gone at the most, two times a week. She is now every 7-10 days. Only once has she been in pain. She's just not a pooper i guess. That does make it easy for us since we use cloth diapers! But like the other moms, when she goes...SHE GOES!!!
  • 8 days for my son.  It was multiple times a day from birth, then about once a day starting at 6 weeks or so, and then starting a little after 2 months he started only going once a week for a while, and when he did it was of course a huge blow out.  It's since picked up to nearly once a day but now that he's starting solids (a little over 5 months) it looks like the time period is starting to stretch out again.  I'm always a little worried when it gets close to a week but he never seems uncomfortable - although he does seem a little relieved after he finally gets it out!  Hope that helps.  Generally nothing to worry about.  My pediatrician said that it's normal as long as the consistency is not hard when he finally does go (his is always very soft/liquid like so no signs of constipation).
  • 1 week for mine. Then he had 6 huge poops over 2 days. Usually he goes 2 days in a row every 4-5 days.

  • DS used to go every single time I fed him, but he has spaced it out more now.  He has gone as long as a week, and when he goes it is a big one.

DH gets really worried.  Last week after 5 poop-free days, DH told our son "Daddy will feel much better if you poop!"  Then he went to work and LO dropped a massive bomb.  I told him that if he ever encourages LO to poop again, he had to be there for the aftermath.  It was easily a 15-wiper.
