That was my biggest fear when I was pregnant b/c Todd works nights and is gone afternoons & evenings and sleeps until about 2. Thankfully my mom and I talk pretty much daily so her stalking me could actually be beneficial in a case like that! I saw a student on crutches today--that definitely has to stink on the ice!

I want to go out so so bad, but our whole front yard, driveway, sidewalk is a huge thick slippery chunk of ice, and I just know I would fall. I can't afford to do so and especially not carrying one or two infant carseats. I sat on our small stoop of a porch and broke up like a one foot square of ice with my hammer in about 15 minutes time. Yeah, it might thaw by May since our driveway gets no sun!
My mom fell yesterday in the parking lot at the Hamilton Towne Center movie theater and dislocated her finger. She then spent 7 hours(!!!) waiting at an Urgent Care and then St. V's to have her finger put back in.
I haven't worked during all this (luckily) but apparently the ER's have been packed full.
Also, watch for ice flying off other cars and semi trucks. They showed some pretty bad damage to vehicles on the news.
9 years ago this week we had an ice storm in MI just like this. my foot planted in some ice and my body fell. I broke my ankle in 2 place (tri mal fracture). I lived alone and I couldn't walk back to my house, so I had to slide on my rear 20 feet to the house. lots of surgery and pins....and one very cute orthopedic surgeon (I was single!) needless to say, I was a little scared to go out the other day!!
I am terrified to drop Maverick while he is in his car seat. I often wait until I see a neighbor out before I leave the house. I always worry that I would hit my head and pass out while he lays next to me on the ground. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one!
Re: psa: be careful it's still slick...
