Baby's HB

Hi~

I have about a week and a half to go and have notice that the baby's HB had been lower (each time) for the past 4 or so visits.  Of course, I have asked the doctors in my past two visits after I saw the declining pattern and neither said it was anything to worry about.

The HB was steadily in the 150s range for awhile and then went to 140s, 135, and 120s yesterday.  There has been no change in movement, so I really am not worried, just curious.  Has anyone else noticed this?

Re: Baby's HB

  • Yep this happened to me as well, and of course I was very concerned since my baby's heartbeat has been steadily in the 150's the whole time. My midwife said that as the baby's circulatory (sp?) system matures, the heart rate slows down. It also has to do with them getting bigger as well. She said as long as it's within 110's to 160's (at least I think that was the range she gave), that it was considered normal. I'd say as long as your Doc's not worried, I wouldn't worry either.

  • Mine too! It had consistently been between 146-154 the whole pregnancy, then it dipped to 129 two visits ago, and 134 last visit. I had heard that was normal and I still feel the same amount of movement so I think it's OK! My husband freaked out a little, but the doc talked him down.

  • yep- ob said heartrate goes down towards the end....same goes for our blood pressure (rises)...obvs provided it's not a drastic rise/decline, then i would say no cause for concern.

  • I believe in some babies the heartbeat lowers to get ready for labor.  My baby has always been in the 130's-140's and has been in the 120's most recently.  As long as your dr says it's nothing to worry about, I wouldn't!  They would have you do a non stress test if there was a concern.

  • Yes.  Our baby's heartbeat is generally in the 140's and yesterday it was 130 and my DH asked our OB about it and she said that once the baby is fully developed, the heart rate decreases and it's perfectly normal.  It just means that your baby is maturing, which is a good thing.
