What are/were your plans for laboring at home? I just remember how sucky it was having three contractions in the 7 min. to our hospital the first time, but also want to labor at home as long as possible since I'll have CFM and more restrictions than last time. Do you feel like an hour of hard labor in the car is worth less time at the hospital? I know it's so easy to say it is now, but will I be hating myself later?

Re: For those about an hour away from hospital/birth center
I am only about 20 minutes from the hospital with no traffic, but I have to say that laboring in the car wasn't horrible. Of course, I didn't sit in the seat like a normal person would, but rode in the back with my doula, facing the back of the car so I was sort of squating on all fours.
For me, laboring in the car was totally worth not laboring at the hospital.
I think it could be worth not being in the hospital but I've also never had to ride in a car during labor.
You could get a cheap hotel room near the hospital and head over there earlier in labor, and then you would only have a short ride to the hospital once things get intense.
funny you say that! I am a seat belt stickler too and I had my doula put my seatbelt around me anyway! I actually liked having it on because the lap part put pressure on my back right where I wanted it!
I'm an hour away too, as long as it's not snowing.
Freaking Wisconsin.
I'm kind of stressed about this part since I don't want to have a baby somewhere in the middle of a cranberry marsh. The first 10 minutes and the last 5 minutes are in civilization. The rest - not so much.
We may drive up and walk around the hospital or something before heading to L/D.
