WOHMs with School-Age kids....

What will your kids do over the summer? We are looking into several day camps that I think DS would love, but most of them don't start early enough for us to be able to drop DS off and still get to work on time. I'm considering a sitter for a couple of hours each morning, but that could be a big pain. What are your plans?

    I haven't decided yet.  Last year, she did "day camp" at our daycare.   It was expensive.  There are several other cheaper camps but they start at age 6.  I was so hoping to have a job in the school system (2 interviews, no job), so this wouldn't be an issue.  Still hopeful.

    I've seen some camps that offer before and after care, which of course costs EVEN MORE.  Camp is freaking expensive.

    DD goes to a youth program they have here on base.

    She'll be going to day camp. DH starts a little later so he'd be able to drop her off and make it intime. Should his hours change, we'd have to have someone as well.

    I'm still not sure. This will be the first summer that we have to deal with this. The day camps around here are SO expensive --  some are five times as much as a month of daycare because they include transportation, I guess. I haven't been able to find an affordable, full-day option that isn't at a daycare.

    will probably do a combo of parks and rec camps and camps at our local soccer center. Most are part time, some allow for early drop off for an added fee.  but, FIL helps us with kid stuff and so will probably take them in the AM and pick up in teh PM for us.
    DS1 age 7, DD age 5 and DS2 born 4/3/12

    Not totally there yet but older DD is Pre-K through the district and they offer a summer program and the school's before and after care program does a summer program with great hours so might do that.  Other options that we will look at once the kids are a little older is daycamp - I know of some in our area that have before/after care, once older (4th grade or older) we send the girls to over night camp for a few weeks.  I may end up hiring a nanny for the summer at some point at least part of the time depending on costs and our situation at the time.  For now - the school program is the way we are going.  They take the kids swimming at least once a week, do a ton of field trips, do bike days each week.
