Potty Training

For those of you that reward...

when did you stop? Dd has sort of started potty training herself. She tells us whenever she needs to go potty and if she pees we give her an m&m after. We don't use it as a bribe to go, but if she goes she gets one. How long did you do that before you stopped? She's very consistently asking and going and now after she goes on the potty she says, "it's m&m time". I'm just wondering how long to keep that up. TIA:)

Re: For those of you that reward...

  • we did rewards (stickers/m&m's) for about three weeks.  then, ds stopped asking for them consistently and i stopped offering.  if he asked, then i would give him one, but i wouldn't remind him.  now we're about four weeks in and he never asks for m&m's and only about once a day will he ask for a sticker.

  • We only do rewards when out- I carry a little baggie of chocolate chips around and if she makes while we're out somwhere she can get something. If she asks or if I bribed her bc I knew she had to go and she was less than willing. She asks less than half the time though... Once shes more settled into it I may start "forgetting" the chocolate chips.

This!  It helps if you move the candy out of sight.  If she sees the candy, she'll ask for it.
