DD can be a bit obsessive/compulsive, but our pediatrician insists that it is normal toddler behavior. Examples: She insists that her toys be exactly where they belong when she is done playing with them. If she has a snack in the car the snack must be in her lap with her sippy on her right hand side, never left. If there is a random pile of things she will do her very best to make them perfectly neat and stacked. Honestly, I'm a bit O/C myself so I'm not a bit surprised. If it was something bordering on dangerous or harmful I'd definitely get into the pediatrician though (washing hands repeatedly to cracking, tapping where she couldn't be distracted, really any compulsion that we couldn't distract her from, etc).
DS has some issues with OCD, but he is autistic. His don't relate to cleanliness (except his hands, can't have anything on his hands) or even organization... they are more about routine, etc. Backpack must be beside his seat, top up, facing the back- change= tantrum. Must use the same cup/fork/spoon/plate for dinner (we're working on this one, good progress!). He lines up his cars over and over and over again. If you turn one the "wrong" direction or get them out of order, meltdown.
If he gets "stuck" on something, a topic or something he saw or thought about... he will talk about it for days and it will come up out of the blue weeks/months later and he'll talk about it for days again.
