Babies: 6 - 9 Months

can I ask a FFFQuestion?

ok for flame free friday I want to ask who puts their LO on their tummy to sleep (doesnt go down on their backs first, just straight to tummy sleeping)?

DS sleeps horribly unless hes on his stomach so in a last ditch effort to help him sleep better I've been putting him in there on his tummy, hes out like a light in no time, and he sleeps through the night.

Yes, I know the possibilities but i'm 3 feet away and check on him frequently. Am I alone or does anyone else do this too?

Re: can I ask a FFFQuestion?

  • My SIL did this with her 2nd child, and she's a happy, healthy 3 year old. Sometimes I think you gotta do what you gotta do to get some sleep.

  • My son never slept on his back.  We started with him on his side and he was on his tummy by week 3.  He's been a tummy sleeper ever since, and he's in his own room, too.

I know there are quite a few of us on the Bump!

  • I do.  I hold out until they can roll.  Then it does not matter if I put them on their back or tummy, they move to the position they want to be in.

  • My daughter won't sleep any other way.  She's a pretty proficient roller/crawler, so I let her.

This except I think he was a bit older before we went from side to belly.

  • I started it when I was at the end of my chain, it helped a lot. Now she will roll to her tummy but not without waking up (if I lay her down asleep) so I just cut to the chase and lay her down on her tummy (she'll be up three hours later crying anyway!)

  • You do what you gotta do.  At this age they may even do it themselves, DD1 did :)
  • DS is a tummy sleeper and has been since about 8 weeks old.

  • My DS would never sleep on his back. He slept on his side for awhile then we started putting him on his tummy at 6 weeks. Now he'll occasionally sleep on his back if he rolls that way.

  • My DS flips right over to his belly every night!  He has since he was 4 months old and started rolling.  My understanding is If they can roll and have good head control, they should be fine :)

  • No flames from me!

DD has always been a tummy sleeper. When she was first born, she would only sleep on my chest (on her tummy). After a couple weeks she prefered her side, but eventually went back to what she loves best - her tummy!

  •    You are not alone . DD has always slept on her tummy . The only time she sleeps on her back is at DC and that is only because by law they can't put them down on their tummy to sleep . Now that she can rollover it doesn't really matter she sleep however she feels comfortable sleeping .

  • DD lays on her side and ends up n her belly I think. It's hard to say because by the time I get her after she wakes, she's on all four's and smiling at me. :D

  • We always put Noah on his back when it?s bed time.  He rolls right over, though.  This might sound awful, but I?m honestly not too concerned.  He can roll like a champ.  Plus, we have a movement monitor.  So, if he were to stop breathing, it would alert us.

  • Once she could roll, it was all over for back sleeping. I put her on her side now and let her roll whichever way she likes. She goes back and forth easily, so I don't stress too much.

That doesn't mean I don't watch her breathe on the video monitor.

  • I totally do since that's how they'll end up.

I don't understand the parents who go and roll their kids onto their back 900 times a night.  How pisssed would you be if you got into a comfortable sleeping position only to have someone roll you over right away?  Get an angel care monitor and remove the fluffy bumper if you need to, but let your kid sleep!
