Moms of Boys-room color?

So I need to paint the nursery for #2 and I don't think I want to do blue. I am thinking like a khaki/tan color. I am really being cheap this time around so we aren't doing expensive bedding or decor. I am just doing like blues, whites, deep red and tan so I figured the tan walls would look ok and transition to when he is older.

Re: Moms of Boys-room color?

  • great idea.  my sister is a mom to 2 boys.  first room was blue and second neutral.  she did a sports theme and the light tan wall went well with the different balls and bats.she moved boy 1 into new room as he transitioned to his big boy bed.

  • Sounds nice to me!! We did a pirate theme in Wesley's room, so the walls are blue, but NOT baby blue. We used Behr's Russian Blue, which is a grey-blue, kinda like a stormy sky, but not too dark.
  • I did a brighter blue on the walls and then everything else neutral.  I wish I knew the color in our living room...I think it'd go great with blue bedding/decor...it's a darker khaki color.

  • Eli's walls are a khaki/tan color with blue accent stripes.  I think the stripes are just the right amount of color.  I have no idea what we're going to do in his new room yet.  Probably something semi-neutral though since he'll be in that room as long as we live in this house.  I might get wall decals or something that can easily be changed as he grows.

  • I just wanted to say that I think its a great idea to go neutral.  I lost the battle in our house; DS has blue walls with orange and green stripes.  It is going to be a PITA to paint over when we decide to move.
  • We have this same color scheme in our room that you're talking about...tan walls and his bedding is in blues, whites, reds and tans. We did more of a rustic feel to the room to go with the rest of the house, but it's the same color scheme.

this is what we did too. ours is a aqua/sky blueish color.  i LOVE it.  its a boy color but could easily work well for a girls room too.

anyway, i think khaki/tan walls would look very nice.  my room at my parents house was a nice suede/tan color and i LOVED it.  it worked really well for a bedroom.

  • We went 2 tone. Looking back I prob would have flipped the colors. I liked the neutral blue though AT could still grow in the room.

As for his current nursery its the beige color bc we moved and that was the color of the room. I still hunt on HGTV rate my space and find tons of ideas without a theme. GL! Bedding is so neutral now that its really easy to make it all coordinate with colors.

  • LO's room is 2toned.  It's an off-white on top, and lime green on bottom.  There is a chocolate brown chair rail and bright orange accents.  It's very modern, and something he can grow into.  Writing it down here it doesn't sound very nice, but I promise it's wonderful!

  • Dennis's room is green. Even though its a neutral tone if I were to have a girl, or probably even another boy, I'd repaint. I'm bored with it. LOL

Complete ditto! I'm so tired of the green in his room - it has to go SOON!

  • Thanks everyone. I talked to DH and we decided on doing 3 walls tan and one blue accent wall that way we can always change the accent wall in the future! Now I just have to find colors!

  • We did half & half.  There is a chair rail in his room, so the bottom 1/3 of the walls are navy blue. Then the top third are tan. The chair rail and all accent painting is white.
