Hello ladies!
I don't want to bore anyone, so I'll make this as short as possible.
Yesterday around 9:30 I started having very sudden, stop-you-in-your-tracks-and-breathe contractions. (JUST as we walked into the commissary too, of course.) We made it an hour and a half through the commissary (thanks to my 3-5 min apart contrax's going on), but I refused to leave our cart of food there. We needed food, and I thought if this was another fluke I'd feel horrible for having to go back later to get all that food anyway.
By the time we got home, got a friend over, and left for the hospital, it was after 1 and we got to the L&D triage room around 2. I was in the triage room for an hour, and by then my contractions were coming a LOT stronger. I had a great technique for breathing through them though and using visualizations, so I can't say it 'hurt' as much as it was 'strong'. I felt a small bit of pressure and had them wheel me to the L&D room. It took 2 nurses and 4 stabs to finally get a vein on me for IV fluids, but even then it wasn't flowing well. (I don't think they got IN the vein, and my right arm from the elbow to the top of my hand is smurf blue.) Less than 4 minutes after the IV line was in, I told the nurse VERY hurriedly that it felt like she was going to come. She got a midwife, and lo and behold I was crowning. One strong push, and her head was out. Another and the rest of her slid out. (Just like all those 'my vagina is a waterslide' remarks I cracked... watch what you say, ladies!) It was less than 30 seconds of pushing.
Adena Marie was 6lbs and 10 oz! I was beyond shocked to hear this- my 1st baby was 8lbs born at 38wks, my 2nd was 7lbs 8oz at 37wks, and everyone was sure this one was going to be at least 10/11lbs by my due date. She is my smallest yet, and I felt SO blessed when the midwife announced 'No tears'. 3 for 3! Whoo hoo!
So yes, I did get my med free birth. And I now have a Hypnobabies book up for freebies if someone wants it. I didn't get to finish it, and I have to say the only part of the whole experience that was unbearable was at the very end when she was already crowning and I didn't know it. I'd actually felt that pressure since they put me in the delivery room! The book seriously helped me out, and I know it's really late in the pregnancy for all the rest of you to use it but if any of you want it for a next pregnancy... give it a go. It was a serious success for me.
Re: I'm home now! PIP
She is cute as a button! A huge congrats!!! So glad things finally got started for you and that you got the birth you wished for!
I can only hope for the same thing sometime soon...and I am definitely taking note here since you had her so incredibly fast!
As you can see from the responses to the first announcement yesterday, people were absolutely thrilled about your news.
))
Wishing you a swift recovery and lots of joy with your new girl and the rest of your family!

Big congrats to you and your family on your beautiful little Adena! She is adorable
Very happy to hear that her birth went more smoothly than the past few weeks for you!
Very cute! Congrats!
I know I've asked you this before, but I'm not sure if you ever responded...
Does your MIL live in northern CA? My mom talks about her co-worker, who is also expecting a granddaughter named Adena. She also called me today to "check on me" because her co-worker's daughter in law had her baby girl.
So basically I'm wondering if this is you? Haha sorry if it's a weird question...

Enjoy your little one!!!!!!
Tiffany, she is just beautiful! So excited for you and so glad you go the med-free birth you so wanted! Also love hearing how the hypnobirthing worked for you! Gives me confidence that it'll work for me in a few weeks! Congrats!!!
Congrats, I am so excited for you! BTW a vaginal waterslide doesn't sound too bad if it gets you a baby in two pushes! I think I will make that my mantra now "my vagina is a waterslide...my vagina is a waterslide..."
But seriously, shes gorgeous and I am so glad you got the birth you wanted. Though I doubt you *particularly* wanted a blue upper arm...
Come on Sticky baby!!

Thanks ladies.
Her hat kind of made her infamous around the recovery ward, when they had to pull her out to be seen by the pediatrician for weighing or hearing tests, all the staff loved her hat! When the birth certificate guy came in and saw her he was like, 'So she's the one with the crazy hat! I saw her this morning!' lol
And yes, the hypno birthing was totally awesome. DH thought at first that I was concentrating on the sensations, but I had to clarify I was doing long breaths and thinking of other things, trying to totally relax- and that when I was totally relaxed, there really wasn't any pain. It clicked with him then, and he did his best to do light touches to help me relax and whisper in my ears encouraging things.
Yay! So glad you had an easy birth, since your labor was like 3 weeks long.
Adena is beautiful!!
