My due date is March 3rd but I just had my 36 week appointment and they scheduled an induction for February 28th. They also said there is a LARGE chance I won't make it until then. Weight estimate is at 7 lbs 10 ounces, her head very low and is measuring at 39 weeks, her abdomen is measuring a bit over 38 weeks. I'm 2 cm dilated, so the irregular contractions I've been having all week seem to be making progress. They said she is practicing breathing well and my placenta is fully mature.
All in all, they said I have all the signs I will have her well before the induction date.
Re: Will definitely have a February Baby
Welcome to our board.
Unfortunately, those size estimates can be way off (see the birth post below where a baby who was supposed to be much larger was born at under 6 lbs!). Definitely be prepared for that!
Ultimately it's your choice and your doctor's when you are induced and why so good luck to you - enjoy our board!
ETA: In response to K_Renee:
No, this is my doctor's recommendation based on the head circumference, which is a scientific measurement, not the estimated weight which is more of a guess. Anyways, the date is only 3 days short of my actual due date.
I trust my doctor. He knows my family history and that all our babies are large, fully-developed, and 'early.' Not one female in my family has carried a baby to 40 weeks. My mom had me 3 weeks early and I was 9 lbs 10.5 ounces. This doctor has delivered almost every baby in my family.
I also believe and agree with him that I won't make it to the induction date. It was just exciting to hear he agrees that I won't make it but a few more weeks.
Thanks. I do realize the estimates can be off, but, given my family history, I feel the measurements are pretty accurate. At my last appointment, before the LO dropped, my fundal height was mearusing 2 weeks ahead and the doc even said then she was really big and running out of room. On average the women in my family have 8 to 9+ pound babies at 2-3 weeks early and none have had breathing/medical issues. I've been having irregular BH for 3 days now, they are much more intense than I had with my son and they are lasting over a minute each. LO dropped about 1.5 weeks ago too. I know I could spend weeks like this, but, I don't think it will be that long. Only time will tell
I'm just really excited they confirmed she's as big as I am feeling she is AND that they agree she'll be arriving early.
Oy. I love people like this. No her doctor has no reason. I mean they just measure for fun, right? It's not accurate so that's why measuring fundal height has been used in obstetrics for decades. OP, welcome to February. And it's absurd, not obsurd.
Thanks for the support, I don't think doing an induction 3 days early is that big a deal. I was honestly thinking he would've wanted it earlier than that....if the measurements are correct I'm afraid to think how big she'll be by the 28th!
On a side note, I know an internal can trigger contractions, but geez, these are stronger than I've been having all week and I've just know timed a few at 6 minutes apart and over a minute long!
Thanks! Excited to be here. It's exciting to hear it from my OB that she will probably be here soon!
Come on Sticky baby!!
