I can NOT breathe...

I've had problems with my allergies for well over a month now. I got pretty sick last week and I'm still getting over it. I have the cough from it, but it's such a hard cough + heavy wheezing. I'm sorry to post a lot about sickness and stuff, but I'm just hurting and I need to get better so I can take care of DD better. It's hard to do anything when you literally can't breathe. I'm gasping for air right now and my chest hurts. I've been taking Robitussin, rubbing Vicks on my chest, and Benadryl which helps temporarily. Any suggestions for other things?

I would love to go to the doctor, but I'm pretty embarrassed to say this: DH and I don't have health insurance. DD does though. There are clinics here that take people by first come first serve who don't have insurance, but you're there for hours, sometimes an entire day. I've been looking into insurance too and it's so hard finding something we can afford.

So basically until I can see a doctor I need your input, again, for something to relieve my wheezing. You guys helped a lot with what DD needed for her symptoms. I know I sound pathetic and very uninformed.. Any tips would be appreciated. TIA.

  • my poor kelseyyy!!! Crying

If you cough any thing up, it's most likely an upper resp infection... if not, then it's most likely bronchitis. I get the 2 every fall/winter/spring and sometimes in the summer. I always get a zpack to get rid of the crap, and an inhaler to help me when I'm wheezing. It sounds like the only thing that could really HELP you is antibiotics. I would maybe try some coricidin, my mom takes that sh!t religiously.

I hope you feel better princess! let me know if that helped you out at all..

Can I get coricidin over the counter? God I wish I had f-ing insurance... I think it's a resp infection because I'm coughing stuff up. I would love an inhaler right now, I used to have one when I was little because I've always had horrible allergies. I see about a zpack though. Thanks girl!

  • Hot steamy steamy showers, humidifier, tea with honey to sooth your throat which I know can hurt like heck after coughing too much.  My mom used to make basically a hot lemonade for me when I was sick.  I have asthma and was always sick as a child, unable to breath, coughing, etc and she would make it and it would sooth my throat and somehow make me feel a bit better.  You take a fresh lemon and squeeze it and mix with water, heat up, and add honey to sweeten.  If you're feeling tight in the chest/wheezy, I found sitting and hunching over with your shoulders lifted and rounded over (kinda like you have to be to get an epidural, if you got one) will help open the lungs a bit to breath a bit easier.

    Feel better!

That is exactly how I'm sitting right now and it's totally helping. Weird, haha. I took a HOT bath which helped and I have a Vicks humidifier on next to me. I'm already feeling better. Tea sounds good though.. Thank you!

Welcome!  There have been a few times when I've had asthma attacks and either didn't have my inhaler on me or it didn't work (thus with me ending in the ER hah) that sitting like that would help alleviate it a bit.  Hope everything works, I know how miserable you are, it's not a fun feeling!
