Do you brush your babies gums?

I had gotten a baby toothbrush set at my shower and really never thought much to use it. Maybe a baby mommy move but I just didn't have it in me to wrestle my baby to brush his gums. Now that he is eating food more regularly I think I may try again. I am also thinking it's probably better to get him use to it now before it becomes a fight every night.

When did you start? Any tips?

Re: Do you brush your babies gums?

  • We started when DD started solids. Never wrestled, just did what DD would allow us to do while the other parent modeled tooth brushing.  Now she brushes twice a day and lets us get in there after her to do a complete job.  I think starting early is key to normalizing it.  GL!

  • I never messed with it until he cut teeth and then we just wiped them with a washcloth for a while. We started brushing when he had four teeth (he was well over a year old).
  • DD only has 1/2 a tooth but we have handed her a toothbrush when we brush.  She likes to chew on it.  We then brush in front of her to model.  Soon, we may actually brush that pearly 1/2 white.

LOL!  We're in the same boat with our DD's 1/2 tooth.

  • We tried about six weeks ago and they just shut their mouths tight.  We tried again last week and they were much more receptive to it.  They only have the two teeth on the bottom right now, but I brush the front and back of those and then massage their gums with the brush and try to brush their tongues.
  • i just wipe his mouth out with a washcloth, but i think he would probably love to chew on one of those weird nubby "Brushes".  I should get him one :)
  • I started brushing when he started eating solids so he would get used to it. I didn't do it every day until he had teeth at 10 months. THey don't really object too much if you get some flouride free toothpaste because they like the taste.
