S/O What You Do with LO - Art Supplies

So in a similar vein, what are you doing with drawing etc? Ellie loves to grab our pens and scribble. I know I need to get a big old roll of butcher paper for her, but what have you been using for the actual drawing? What do your LO's like? The big chubby crayons? Chalk? Washable markers? And what about other things - finger paints, etc?! TIA.

crayons. The bigger ones are easier for him but he steals and breaks his sister's all the time. Chalk is messy and he tries to eat it still. Washable markers just make him a big mess as do finger paints. I'm saving finger paints until it is warmer and they can do so outside and I can just hose him off!

We use sidewalk chalk (when it is not -20 below), the crayola crayons that have the plastic holders and bathtub crayons.

I would love something more creative. I bought Playdoh for Matt but he was not into yet.

We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the big triangle WASHABLE Crayola Crayons. They are AMAZING and have washed off every surface that Maddie has colored and she has colored them ALL. They are brilliant. They are shaped in a triangle to help them hold the crayon correctly, so that is a great thing.

I buy those big, inexpensive coloring books. I keep thinking I would like to attach a paper roller for craft paper to an old coffee table and put clips on the opposite end (kind of like what doctors have on their tables for the sterile paper). Right now, it is just a pipe dream...

Ditto this. I am saving one of those Crayola water color sets that are in a hand shaped container for the spring/summer. I keep eyeing it and talking myself out of breaking it out early.

We have washable marker and crayons for coloring and I put the big brown package paper over the table and let her have at it. We use chalk outside on the sidewalk and driveway and used it in the heated pole building during the winter. We don't have paint.

We use the crayons with the plastic holders made for little hands. I bought some cheap coloring books from Target and we'll sit and color together.

So far we've just used crayons and M loves them. They're triangle shaped so they don't roll, but seem as small as I remember them being when I was a kid.

While my LO is still incubating, I was a preschool teacher for 11 years (with lots of toddler experience). I love art, so we were always doing something!

OP looks like you're daughter is just over one - what I'd do for the littles (and older kids) is soak those fat sidewalk chalk sticks in water. They get softer and hence easier to make a mark it takes a few days for them to dry out which is nice - just make sure you put them in a breathable container so they don't get moldy.

The we chalk looks great on dark paper.
