I love the name Amos, but three family members have said they think it sounds like...um...er... anus. So I'm bummed, all the books and such say don't name your child something that could be easily made fun of.
Any Amos mommies out there? Your feedback is very appreciated!
Re: Would kids make fun of this name?
yes...or at least I would have when I was an immature little kid
SOrry I know its not what you wanted to hear..but being honest.
Its NMS, but if you like it go for it. I didn't immediately think of Anus...some minds don't directly go into the gutter.

I dunno, kids can make fun of just about anything. My name's Trista and some kids in 3rd grade turned it into "Triscuit" like the crackers. Which is really dumb
Amos reminds me of an Amish name...but that's not a bad thing I guess
We'll miss you sweet Debbie Girl (4.21.12) and sweet Cindy Girl (8.9.12)

I would not have even thought of it. I really like it.
FWIW, kids will find something to make fun of each other no matter what. It's just the luck of the draw. By the time they know what an anus is your LO would probably have already sunk or swam anyways.
I think the same thing...A-mos, not A-mus.
Also, listen, my name is Mary, which seems boring and as plain toast as you can get, yes? But, also, it rhymes with almost EVERY word. And is in every fourth song. Plus 5 of Mother Goose's finest. So I definitely agree with the other posters that say that if he's going to get teased, it won't matter what his name is. Go with your gut.
-Hairy Cherry Mary, the Scary FairyGreat, because of this thread, when I see the cookies I am going to think "Famous Anus."

you said it! this is perfect.
also, I love the name Amos. It's on my short list. but two other names have taken the top spots. Isaac and Ian. Go with your gut, if your baby is Amos, then I have no doubt Amos will be the coolest Amos out there.
I totally agree!
It reminded me of that "Amos 'n Andy" radio show turned TV show a looooong time ago. White people in blackface...the characters were NOT portrayed in a "strength based" manner...
Not that many people our age would get that reference but blame it on my "Mass Media and Minorities" class I had to take for a diversity credit in college.
I think of Famous Amos cookies... Yum.
Me too!
