Round ligament pain - anyone's severe??

I have been having really bad, sharp pains in my lower left abdomen for about a week & a half now. I saw my doctor and he seems to think it could be my round ligament.  From what I got from him, and what I've read online, it is common... but my pain is very severe... to the point that it hurts to walk, get up/down, sleep, cough, sneeze, etc.  Is anyone else experiencing this?  Is anyone's so bad that it's limiting physical activity???  This BLOWS.

  • I've had some severe, but only related to a sneeze.

  • Does it feel like you are getting your period? I just started this today and was trying to look up info on RLP.

  • Mine is pretty bad.  It hurts (usually not too bad, but sometimes to the point of making me double over for a few minutes) whenever I stand up, roll over, bend over, laugh, sneeze, cough...  A couple of days ago, I stood up too fast, got a nasty burst of pain, which caused me to sit back down, which caused more pain, so I laughed because it was ridiculous, which made it hurt worse, and the more it hurt the more I laughed and the worse it got until I was lying on the ground laughing and crying and DH was wondering what the hell was wrong.

I have! It spreads to my back too. It is the worst pain I have ever felt in my entire life, and up until today I thought maybe it was a kidney stone or a kidney infection. I have been getting tests done for 2 weeks now, and I just found out a few hours ago  that "all of my tests came back fine." I am SO frustrated. My husband and I were involved in a very serious car accident about 3 weeks ago, and I was in the hospital for 24 hours, but they said everything was okay and I was released. These pains I have been having have been happening since then. & I feel like my doctor & the nurse in the office aren't taking me seriously because they probably deal with paranoid hypocondriac pregnant women all the time, but this pain is EXCRUCIATING. I honestly have barely left the house in weeks, because it hurts to stand, walk, breathe, everything. I am so frustrated. :(

  • mine has been pretty bad but seems to have gone away over the last couple of weeks.  Hope it gets better for you soon.

  • Yup, mine has been really bad too. It helps to do stretches every day- I do yoga. Sometimes it is almost unbearable: I can't stand up completely when it is really bad, it wakes me up in the middle of the night, it makes me nauseous sometimes too. I do yoga, use a rice bag (those cushions filled with rice that you put in the microwave), and take Tylenol. It sucks but at the same time makes me look forward to labor so I can get all these misc. pains over with!
  • Mine is really bad, but I was just told to take Tylenol and relax. Having a 15 month old doesn't make it any easier though! My OB said mine is because my ligaments are already loose from having 2 pregnancies so close together. I can't wait until DD gets here so my pain will go away!

  • I was in the hospital for severe pain on my lower right side and it felt like I was there forever and a couple of doses of completely ineffective morphine before they just told me it was round ligament pain. I feel much better now that I do prenatal yoga and use heating pads when the pain gets too bad. Just stretch slowly and work your legs a bit before you sit up. That's helped me tremendously.
  • I had this on my right side for a while and my doctor told me it was most likely an ovarian cyst. The pain felt like an exaggerated version of the pain I usually got during ovulation. Apparently, these cysts are semi-common in pregnancy and will normally dissolve on their own, and since everything looks fine with the baby, that is what they concluded.

  • yep! All the time. I was so scared the first time I had them but now I'm getting used to them. Doc said to take tylenol and use a heating pad on low. I also do yoga and deep water, water aerobics to help stretch out a bit. It helps.
