naps

If you LO wont nap, or gets up way (30+ mins) before nap time is usually over do you just get them up?Or do you keep them in thier crib (if they arent crying) until nap is over or close to over?

Re: naps

  • I would love to end naps all together, so I do not encourage them in any way, other than the minimum to have a happy child until bed time, so no if they are up, they are up.  Thankfully, DD dropped her nap at exactly 2 for the most part.  DS seems to be following the same path, I am crossing my fingers.  Going to bed at 7 and getting up at 7 or later just suits our family a lot more.  We can do a lot more stuff through the day.

  • If they don't go to sleep from the beginning, I'd let them cry it out for awhile.  (Duration depends on age).  If they slept for only 30 minutes, I'd get them up.  Chances are, they're not going back to sleep at that point.

If your child is 16 months (from your ticker), I'd try adjusting the nap time a bit earlier or play with it somehow.  Is he/she still taking two naps or just one?  At that age, I think my older son was transitioning to one nap and his nap time moved earlier, from about 1:30 to between 12:30 and 1 and he'd go for a couple hours.

    Good luck!

  • If Miles didn't start screaming the instant he woke up, I would totally leave him in the crib.  Especially on days like today, when he only napped for 40 minutes.

  • When Elliot wakes up, morning or after a nap, he kneels down and yells under the door, "Hi Mom."  If I don't get him THAT instant, or even acknowledge that I heard him and am on my way, he gets really, really mad.  He gives me no choice but to get him.  Nap time is however long he naps.  I don't say, "Naptime is from 2-4 and that is that."

  • if they aren't crying- i let them be.

    Kids need down time too.

Even if Gisele doesn't go down for a nap- i leave her in there. she has quiet time. as long as she isn't screaming/crying - i let her be.

  • I never had a "set" time for naps. Some days it was a 2 hour nap, some days 3 hour, etc.

None of my kids have napped past age 2. I tried quiet time and would leave them in their room for 1 hour. Once they would scream for the whole hour, I eliminated the nap alltogether......
