My niece's name is Kairi (like Ky-ree). It's a traditional Japanese name but I think some people in the U.S. think it's just a youneek spelling of a made-up name, especially since BIL and SIL are not Japanese. It sounds cute though and fits my niece.
My 2 year old DD's middle name is Mariko (beautiful one in kanji) and my 6 month old DD is Tomiko (can't remember the meaning-eek!). Both were family names. I had a hard time picking out Japanese names (DH is Japanese) because I would like it if pronounced in an American way, but wouldn't like it when heard it pronounced correctly.

My roommate in college was Japanese and named Yuki. I love it and she was such a sweet girl. On the baby name websites it says it means "snow," but she told me it meant "lucky."
I worked with a sweet little Japanese girl once named Moeko, pronounced Moy-ko. Not sure what it means though... couldn't quite find it doing a quick Google search.
My brother's girlfriend is from Tokyo, and her name is Sayaka. She says it means brilliant star. I also like her friend's name, Keiko. I don't know what it means, but I like the sound of it.
