1st Trimester

I got a 3D ultrasound at 8 weeks

I went in for my first appt today at 8 weeks and because we've been ttc for awhile and i had surgery in sept the ultrasound tech remembered me and squeezed me in for an ultrasound.  And to top it off she printed me 3D pictures!  It was so amazing!!!  It was so insane seeing the little blob in 3D!!!  Holy smokes!

  • Fun. My tech said they only do the 3D ones for the later ultrasounds so I'll have to wait a bit to see the little guy in 3D.

  • That's neat that they did that so early for you.
My fiance doesn't want to do the 3d ultrasounds - he thinks they're kind of creepy.

Tell him he can stay home. Or close his eyes. Stick out tongue

Honestly, mine never turned out well. Nathan you can only see half his face and Lily wouldn't face the camera.

I came to terms with it, though, because I decided it'd be a surprise on D-day (since the gender wasn't) lol

  • my doctor said they don't do 3D ultrasounds unless it's for high risk or difficult pregnancies.

I had commented on my cousin's 3D ultrasounds 'cause i thought they were neat, and she said that same thing, that i don't want to have to get them done, as they are for high risk pregnancies.

    That's weird.

I say that because when you get a 3-D done at my OBs office you have to sign a paper that says "I understand that this u/s is not for diagnostic purposes and no measurements will be taken."

They use it for exactly the opposite...

  • That's awesome! Where's the pic?

  • Because its extra work, and not all OB's have the equipment, most OB's only use 3D for high risk.  High risk can mean you're 35+ though too.  With DS we went to a specialty place that offers 3D ultrasounds for fun.  We got a ton of pics and the whole thing on video, which was pretty neat.  Insurance didn't cover the $100 that it cost but it was totally worth it.

  • I had a 3-d at 9 weeks also. I didn't expect it but I looked at the screen and there baby was in 3-d! It was pretty awesome. I'm not high-risk and haven't had any previous problems. My sister had one done to for her first u/s.

They can be creepy until it is YOUR baby.  If offered, you should get one.  They really are amazing.  I love mine of DS.

Just FYI - being over 35 doesn't make you high risk. I am 39 and was 37 with DD and was not high risk.

I thought they were creepy and it was my baby...

  • I had 3D u/s with both DDs.  I had several with DD1 thanks to pre-e, and then a "just for fun" 3D with each.  Neither of the just for fun sessions turned out well.  I had an anterior placenta with both girls, so the pictures were not great.

  • Just FYI: 35+ is because you have a chance of increased or decreased chomosmalal make-up.  Although I am 19 and high risk as well, so I'm not saying that's all that is, but the 35+ age group is classified as high risk until the pregnancy is verified as healthy and the fetus is proven to have no adverse affects due to the age of the "egg".
