PNP advice?

Hello ladies! Hope you've all been doing well and for those who got snow - lucky! We just got tons of rain that I was kind of excited about because it was melting the snow...............................................until I had to walk home tonight and ice had formed EVERYWHERE. Ugh, yuck.

Many of you read my intro-post and know I'm on a few welfare programs (things are bad right now...really, really). One of the programs in my area has this thing where a Graco rep comes and blah blah blahs at us and then we get a free PNP - yay, right? That's a huge help.

I've been concerned lately about two things, though:

Are PNP's truly OK for full time use?

Do regular crib sheets work or do you have to buy the ones they market specifically for the PNP?

I basically have to use this thing - we don't have money for a crib, nor do we have a car to grab a used one even if I were to find one on Craigslist.

Thanks for any thoughts/feedback <3

Re: PNP advice?

  • We used PNP in its bassinett setting for the first 6 weeks exclusively - naps, bed, etc. - and she could have stayed there longer, but we were ready to have her in her room (newborns are loud sleepers Stick out tongue).  We now have it at my mom's and she sleeps in there just fine.  And if you can get one that has the spider legs where you can attach toys to dangle over head, you won't need a playmat!  Technically, they take PNP sheets, but since regular sheets would be larger, I'm sure you could make those work.  I also bought/received way to many and would happily send you a couple since we don't use them.  They're gender neutral since we were team green.

  • Nothing is wrong with sleeping in tne PNP for the first few months until they can sit up on their own. I wouldn't use regular sheets unless you are good at sewing and can make them fit the PNP mattress. Loose bedding may suffocate the baby. The PNP sheets are only $10 each. I can also send you a couple of our sheets (one green and one yellow), if you like.

  • IMO, using a PNP for full time use is just fine.  I agree with trying to get pnp sheets or modifying regular crib sheet to fit more securely especially when LOs start rolling around.

FWIW, I think sometimes we forget that really all a baby needs is to be fed, changed, loved and watched over.  The majority of the baby stuff is very cute fluff that means much more to us than them.

     Be careful on that Ice!

  • It should be fine. M napped in the bassinet when he was tiny and we still use the pnp lowered - as a playpen - when we travel.

Ditto the stuff about using regular sheets but making sure they're adjusted to fit properly.

  • Jack slept in a PNP in my room until I caved and let him sleep in my bed (yep, I'm one of those moms).  He would have stayed in the PNP except I found it easier to just reach over in bed and nurse him than to pick him up from the PNP while I was sleep deprived.  He stayed with me until about 3 months old, then I moved him to his own room.  Jack sleeps in a PNP every day at his sitter's house so I think it is totally fine for everyday use.  Ditto the others about the sheets though.  You really need sheets that fit tight, no matter what kind of bed he sleeps in.

  • Ditto the PPs.  The regular crib sheets will be too large and I have some sheets to send you if you would like.

Matt slept in his PNP until he was four months then we moved him into his crib (and out of our room) so we could sleep better.  He is fine sleeping in his PNP even now.

You really don't need a crib.

  • Ditto PPs. It is safe and just fine, but either use the PNP sheets. Thrift shops would also have them. Loose bedding is a safety hazard.

Oh, and I was going to say that is pretty cool that they will come and do the demo or whatever and give you a PNP. Nice program. :)

I missed your intro but welcome. Big Smile

  • You are all so sweet! Thank you for the helpful answers!! For those who offered to send me their extra sheets I will send you a PM. It's very kind of you.

Yes, it's a great program...and I have Will Smith's mom to thank LOL remember the Fresh Prince's opening tune? Well, he's truly from West Philly and she's on the board. The song also rings true that it's not a good neighborhood.....................at all. It can be really scary. I'm really grateful to the programs around here (another one will give us a free car seat - aces, cuz we don't have a car, but it's essential to get LO home from the hosp and have in case of emergencies/cab). Life has been really hard lately...we'll come up out of it, but in the meantime we have LO to plan for. A woman at my church had her LO use a dresser drawer as a crib during their rough start, so I know many things are just fluff and someone always has it worse. I'm grateful for what I have.

This reminds me - wanted to ask all of you another question/other thread.

We all know how horribly the welfare system is abused, but please remember how much it helps people like me. The abusers make it very difficult for people like me to get into, though...so frustrating.

Hello to new faces I haven't met before <3

  • this is why I am liberal. I support welfare as my family was on it for a while when I was very young. Sure, people abuse it, but some desperately need it and I'm not about to support taking life lines away from good people because there some jerks out there.
