I am new to the Bump and I am looking for information on Vasectomy Reversals. Does anyone know which board I should be on for support/questions? Thank you so much!!
I'm not sure if there's a specific board that could help you with that. I would recommend Google and look at some medical journals, as well as talking to your Doctor about it. Good Luck!

Short rundown- Vasectomy when he was 28 and the reversal wasjust this past end of May/ beg of June when he was 35 (he turned 36 on July 14) so around 7 1/2 yrs between the two.....This is what we were told. The less time between Vas and Reversal the better, BUT alot depends on how fertile he was BEFORE a vasectomy, Does your DH have any prior children? Also alot of your success depends on the recovery. We did really well with that, your DH cannot basically MOVE other than going to the bathroom for at least 4 days.
Also- do not get discouraged...things do work out, money, job, and timing, I was honestly on the verge of just giving up and everything cause of our work and all the other details and we just sat down and said we were going to have this done so we could at least known that we did everything in our power to try. Then after the reversal I thought it was like a switch..boom he's fertile again...it can take up to a year. It didn't take us that long at all DH was fertile again as of end of OCT and well I got preg the end of DEC.
If you want to know anything else or ANY questions I will try to help. I have been in your shoes I know how emotional and heartbreaking it is and what a processs this takes. Also I can help you with the doctor selection, you do have tons of choices. I hope this helps!
My DH's vasectomy was done 10 years ago and by the time we have the cash to pay it will probably be about 10.5 years. We are in Columbus, Ohio and have a doctor that we have talked to but only very briefly. I wanted to look into a few different doctors just to make sure we feel comfortable. He does have two children from a previous marriage so he is probably somewhat fertile... fingers crossed that he still is!!! It has been emotional already because we were supposed to have a consultation 2/3 but the day of the appt they called and said they no longer do VR's... and they gave us a referral but we weren't keen on that doctor so we are back to square one already. It has already been a roller coaster of emotions and we haven't even met with a doctor in person yet lol. Where was the doctor you saw? Thanks again i really appreciate everything.
Oh you two are in great shape then! You have a lot working in your favor to explain:
#1. your under 15 years (we've been told that this is kind of a magic number so that his vas deferons have not depleted, after 15 yrs I guess they start to scar over and when they do a reversal they have to do more of an evasive one)
#2 you've already started saving $, We hadn't saved very much and was planning to try to put 1/2 of it on a credit card but THANK God somehow it worked out that our insurance covered everything but the doctor's fee. Now we were told since we were paying cash the price was drastically reduced..We were told in the begining that it was going to be around $7-8000 and we only ended up actually paying $1200.00! If you have insurance they will usually pay more than you might think, so you maybe can check on that. We just had the doctor run everything through ins. first and we only paid what they kicked back.
#3 Good Doctors are everywhere. We were planning to go to that place on the internet in ST. Loius cause we thought it was the best but we just couldn't come up with a plan, everything wasn't working out. So I called the local Urologists (Urology of Indiana) and come to find out they did VR's all the time, they just didn't advertise. You'll want to start out with a urologist that does mircrosurgery (othorscopic) less painful and way shorter recovery. I don't think you would be too far from Indianapolis if you wanted to try our doctor, I can give you his name, he was great to work with.
#4 He was already fertile, if he's fathered two children already, He's got good swimmers. That's one of the best signs of all! Mine only had one boy (he's 13 now) so yeah..BIG age diff.
I KNOW that it can be hard thinking that sometimes because you and him haven't been able to conceive that it's not as special between you two, after a VR it IS. It gets alot better because you had to work so much harder at it. If he's willing to do this for you, then it means more to him than you can imagine. It took me a while to realize that myself. I am thrilled if my story helps in any way, I had NO ONE to go to and it was hard because I felt so alone in my "battle" If I can help in any way please do not hesitate!
Who is your insurance through? I haven't called our insurance company yet. I am very excited to start the process and my DH does want to do this because we want to have a child together and he knows it's really important to me to have a child of my own. My step children are 10 and 12 so it will be a large age difference too! I would love to have your doctors name because we just want to make sure we have a doctor that we are both comfortable with! Thanks again!

We have Anthem Insurance and it paid for Doctor visits(3) One before surg. and 2 after and the hospital fees and surgical fees and all the lab testing.
It will happen fast, we called for an appt. He got us in within 2 weeks and surg was scheduled a month later.
