Memorial Slideshow Songs: Suggestions?

My grandpa is dying of pancreatic cancer.  The pancreatic cancer didn't show up on his September scans and is now in his liver as well...so it's aggressive.  They're giving him anywhere from 3 weeks to 6 months to live, but anything can happen when you're 89.  So........he's making his funeral arrangements and all that jazz now.

So I'm planning to have my cousin create a slideshow for us to remember him by and to show at the visitation.  I've got one song in mind.  "Live Forever" by the Highwaymen.  But I need some more suggestions.

He's an old school Baptist minister...so keep that in mind.  Thanks in advance.  :-)  Here's a pic of us this past weekend...after we found out it's terminal cancer for sure.

  • No songs come to mind, but gosh, I am sorry to hear this, emianne.  Losing a grandparent is so tough.  I hope his last days/weeks/months are as pleasant as can be.  Thinking of you...

  • I had such a hard time picking songs for my gram's slide show.that I went instrumental. I like that we could loop it and have it on during the time when everyone went back to my aunt's house after the service and it have nice background music to the gathering without seeming repetitive. I'd u want instrumental suggestions let me know and ill post them for u once I'm home tonite. I'm so incredibly sorry for your impending loss.
Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • I'm so sorry for your family.  My grandmother just passed away on Thanksgiving and I made her memorial slideshow.  I used Louis Armstrong "What a Wonderful World," The Celtic Woman "The Soft Goodbye" and Frank Sinatra "My Way."

Also, someone on here recommended a website that has a lot of songs on it.

  • I'm so sorry that your granddad is dying.  It will be a really sad time, but knowing someone is going to die is a gift in that you have the opportunity to tell him everything you want to tell him and to be able to make even more memories with him.  It's a gift you don't want to receive, but you are glad you got it after the fact.

One song comes to my mind:  Remember When by Alan Jackson

Shell, that would be fantastic.  I'm open to just instrumental and I think that's a great idea.  No one lives where he's going to be buried, so I'm not sure we'll need strictly instrumental...but I like the idea.  Thank you so much.

And ladies, thank you all.  I'm not as heartbroken (yet) as you'd think.  He's so at peace with it.  My grandma died when I was 11 and he's said more than once that he's just counting the days until he can get back to her.  He's incredibly strong in his faith so he's not scared.  We are all hopeful it won't be painful for him.  Thanks for your prayers and thoughts.  I love you all.

    Me too.

  • thinking of you all as well...  the soundtrack bio is in my bio, and if you have something particular in mind, I might either have the music, or can get it for ya ;-)

I like "Remember when" as well. so nice, even if it IS country, lol.  But always good to end it with something kinda upbeat and "him" if you can, leave 'um smilin' ;-)

  • My aunt just emailed me and said she has a recording of my grandpa and grandma singing Wayfairing Stranger, which is one of his favorites, together with her playing the guitar.  So that's a must-do.  :-)  How sweet.  It brought me to tears.

  • I'm so sorry sweetie!  That's so hard.  When my grandma passed, we used "My Way" by Frank Sinatra and "I'll Be Seeing You" by Bing Crosby....2 of her favorite songs.
