Nose picking- am I imagining this?

I've noticed that LO has started to pick her nose and she's only 10months old.  Am I imagining this?  Every time I look at her she's got that little finger poking around in there...occasionally she tries to eat it too.  EW!  Can she really be starting this already and how do I encourage her to stop??

Re: Nose picking- am I imagining this?

  • You are not imagining it!!!  DS does the same thing and he's 9.5 mos. One day I noticed his little finger found his nose, then went right into his mouth. He had a runny nose at the time, so he probably got a taste of something. First I thought it was coincidence but now at least once a day I see the finger go in the nose and into the mouth.  As soon as I see it start to happen I say "No" and move his hand away from his nose. Not sure what else to do.

  • That's exactly how it started here too...she had a runny nose and stuck her finger right up there.  I've tried saying "No" but she just looks right at me and does it again.  One of my friends tried to console me and said that babies/toddlers who pick their noses and eat it get sick less often because they are "self-vaccinating" in a way against common germs.  Uh...DOUBLE EW!  Has anyone else heard that before?
