Can anyone share their Wake Med hospital experience with me? I had DS at Rex and everyone I know also delivered at Rex. Wake Med is closer to me and I was thinking about switching OBs anyways. Thanks.
I delivered at WakeMed Raleigh. I work there and because of insurance I had to deliver there. I had a pretty good experience, but I would say it wasn't the best it could have been. I had a pretty easy delivery, an awesome L&D nurse, my anesthesiologist was awesome and I got my epidural pretty much as soon as I got to the hospital.
LO had to go to the NICU though because of resp distress. The intensivist were great! I was pretty peeved though when they moved him out of the NICU without notifying me. I, of course, would have gotten him immediately from the newborn nursery, but I didn't know he had been moved.
I had a small room because that was the only one available at the time (I delivered during a full moon). My PP nurse gave me the option the next day of moving to a bigger, renovated room, but I didn't want to have to pack and all that, so I declined. I had TONS of flowers, balloons, bags, etc.
The food was pretty good, much better than the food on the floor I work on! The lactation nurses were wonderful. I think I saw 4 different ones while there, and they all had different techniques and tips which were very helpful.
FWIW I also work at WakeMed and still delivered at Rex. Reason being the OB I went to I had been going to for 10 years and didn't want to switch. Even so, if I had to deliver at WakeMed, I would have done WakeMed Cary. A lot of the nurses I work with did deliver at WM Raleigh and I haven't heard any bad stories so I'm sure it's ok. (trust me, I would have heard!! lol).
I delivered at Western Wake - and loved the experience. Food was good, facilities were excellent, everyone was very very helpful answering all my FTM questions
