Babies: 9 - 12 Months

What are your thoughts on...

Having a professional photographer photograph your child's birth?  There is a post about this on my BMB.  I dont think I could do it.  I dont need any people in the room I know (besides drs, nurses and DH) getting a shot of my girly bits (even if they dont take pictures of it they will still see).  Would you ever consider it?

  • I personally wouldn't. But, there is a poster I know on the nest who did and her photos were amazing! The photographer really captured the sweetest moments.

Plenty of people have extra people in the room (like a doula). Its all about personal comfort level.

  • I really wanted to, but with an urgent csection it just didn't happen.  I would love to have those precious moments captured by a skilled photographer.

Yeah I understand having a doula.  But it isnt for me (the photographer that is).  I was very uncomfortable and I think an extra person I knew would have made it worse.  I do think you could get some really cool pics but not worth it IMO.

  • It's not my thing, but I don't find it odd when someone else wants to do it.

  • I had my friend who is a L&D nurse and she took Pictures for me. I'm so glad she did. There were none of my lady bits though :p

  • No way.  I don't need high res pics of me looking like death.

  • I thought about it and was just never comfortable enough with it. Thank goodness too because I ended up going for an emergency c-section.

  • Something I couldn't do. During the pushing and birth at my hospital, they wouldnt allow any one to take pictures. You had to wait until the baby was fully out before you could take pics.
  • I definetely would. We didn't get any pictures right when DD was born and I totally regret not asking one of the nurses to do it. DH didn't even think about it and I definetely wasn't thinking about pictures at the moment lol. I've seen professional pics while in the labor room and they are amazing. So my vote is yes, except anything in nether region though!

  • I would. It was hands down the best day of my life, why not remember it with beautiful moments? SO  was way to busy right after birth to take many pictures.

  • I thought about it because I've seen some really neat pictures. The hospital I was at had a no video/photo policy during deliveries.

  • Yes!!! I have only a few photos from that day and they are kinda disappointing. I guess I was only there at the birthing center for about 9 hours but still. DH and the doula were helping me. I didn't have anyone taking photos.

The photographers that take the pictures are not going to be all up in VAG unless they are very close with you or specifically agree in that type of photo. Usually those pictures show the two of you laying there or pacing the floor and the little details like the clock time when your child was born. I want some photos like that!

  • I would absolutely do it if I could!

With Michael I only wanted SO and I to be in the delivery room, but our moms and his sister ended up being in there too (because the doctors were surprised I was ready and rushed the NICU in just in case because of the meuconium...(sp?) ) My Mom was going to video tape the birth, but MIL told her I had requested earlier that it not be recorded. FIL wanted to be there and record the whole thing and I was very turned off by the whole idea. Now I wish I had let her video tape it, and If we have another I will be happy to let FIL in too. As he is a step-dad and has never had kids of his own. I now know how much it would mean to him and it's such a special moment I would be okay with sharing it. Especially since I know it's not about my vag now. Sorry if I rambled....

  • I love looking at other's birth photos but probably wouldn't do it myself.  I'm too private of a person.
