More Eco Friendly Milk Storage system

I plan on BFing with #2 and hope to have a good milk supply again to build up a stash for when I go back to work.  I had a huge stash with #1 but do realize every baby is different.  I used the Lanoish breastmilk storage bags the first time around and although they held a lot of milk often I found they leaked or would tip over causing waste of milk, which is always annoying.  I also feel like they were sort of wastful as they aren't biodegradable that I know of.  Does anyone have good recommendations for a more eco friendly breast milk storage.  I thought about doing the mothers mate system which is bottles but realize that if I do end having a huge stash that would require a lot of bottles which can be very costly and then when I'm done breastfeeding I would have a ton of bottles that would need to be thrown away.  I also thought about looking into biodegradable milk storage bags but have not found any reviews on them.  Thanks for any suggestions!

  • I also use the Lansinoh bags; don't go to bottles, way too bulky even if you have a separate freezer. I have not heard of anything more eco-friendly

my stash with #2 is a lot smaller than w/ #1 b/c he eats more than she ever did

  • I feel like there was an ecobabybuy.com offer earlier this week for eco friendly milk storage, but the offer is no longer available. Maybe you could email them and see if they could provide you with the product details?
  • I recently read about these Honeysuckle bio-degradable milk storage bags.  I don't know where you can buy them though, it doesn't look like they are available on Amazon like the website says.

  • You can freeze milk in ice cube trays and store them in regular freezer storage bags. You'd be using much fewer bags.

Yeah, an older  mom was telling me about doing this wayyyy back in the day. I just don't think I could trust biodegradable milk bags.  FWIW, I used the Lansinoh bags exclusively and only had a handful of leaks (most due to obvious punctures). I'd freeze them flat and then store them upright in shoeboxes or similiar rubbermaid-ish containers.

  • my stash is way to big to use anything but bags.  I have not seen any reviews on bio degradable ones.

I use the lansinoh bags and have only had a handful of leaks- and that was due to me filling them up too much (cause the milk expands as it freezes and opens up the seems as a result).
