Hi. DH and I have been TTC for a really long time, and our 4th IVF attempt has finally been successful, at least so far! Since we have been spending so much time at the reproductive endocrinologists office the past 2 years, I have stopped going to my old Gyn. I don't think I want to go back there because she was really dismissive about the problems we were having when TTC, and I just didn't like that offices bedside mannor.
I'm wondering if anyone out there has any ObGyn suggestions - I am looking for someone who understands how hard it has been to go through infertility treatments and loss. I also have to travel for work sometimes, and I need a doctor who is going to be on the safe side as far as air travel and pregnancy. Someone who isn't afraid to write a note to get me out of travel during the third trimester (if appropriate). I've never had an ObGyn who I've actually liked - and its time I find someone.
I am also wondering which hospitals are the easiest to work with. So far, I am leaning toward York Hospital or Hershey. We live in North York County, so York, Hbg, Holy, Hershey, heck, even Carlisle is doable. Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Re: ObGYN/Hospital Recomendations?
I'm in Northern York County as well - I work in Mechanicsburg but live close to New Cumberland. I go to Partners in Women's Healthcare (they have quite a few OBGYNs, a couple gynecologists, and a few midwives) and I'll be delivering at Harrisburg Hospital. I've been using this office for 11 years, for everything from routine exams to minor surgery and now my first pregnancy... I think I've seen nearly every doctor and nurse practitioner in the office and I've never had a problem with any of them.
I have no experience with York or Carlisle Hospitals, Holy Spirit is a little too out there (religious affiliation, not distance) for me, and I prefer not to go to Hershey unless it's some major trauma.
Most OBGYNs deliver exclusively at one or two hospitals, so make sure you pick a gyn office that delivers at your preferred hospital. Also check with your insurance, sometimes they won't cover a hospital that is outside of a certain area (unless it's an emergency delivery). Meaning, if you're anywhere near me they may give you a hard time about Hershey or Carlisle since they're much further than Harrisburg, Holy and York.

I delivered my 1st son at York and they have a great delivery floor and new maternity wing that is nice. I work at York Hospital now in the residency program and plan on delivering here again. I really liked York Women's Health Center(not to be confused with Women's healthcare Group). Dr. Beniot-Wilson and Dr.Robert seemed very good. Def. Stay away from Memorial Hospital(as they have no NICU and that makes me nervous would you need that). My SIL delivered at Harrisburg Hospital and where the facility seemed very modern and nice, I felt the nursing staff was ver abrupt with us both days we were with her. I wouldn't really hold that against them though as long as I had great medical attention(and because over all as a nurse i have found that labor and delivery nurses aren't extremely pleasant in my opinion...sorry if I offend anyone with that, just my thought).
You can always doctor date.......go meet with someone and if you don't like them....find someone else! Good luck
I love my OB/GYN; Woodward adn Associates, however, Harrisburg hospital, not so much! I have heard great things about York Memorial and Holy Spirit in Camp Hill! HTH!
Last year three very close friends of mine delivered at Holy Spirit in Camp Hill, as I will. I was present at one of the births this past year. The nurses and doctors were great, the rooms are homey and comfortable and they were incredibly flexible with the visiting hours if you so choose to want people in or out at times beyond their curfew for visitors.
They weren't very pushy with the religious stuff. Yes, there are pictures and statues around and they asked if any of the new parents wanted a priest to pray for them before they left but that was all optional.
Myself and two of my friends used the center for women's health in Camp Hill as well. It literally shares a parking lot with the hospital. They have a team of doctors and midwives that will see you. I love my midwife.
I have also not heard good things about Carlisle or Harrisburg hospital. I know two ladies who had epidurals screwed up at Carlisle and another who had a wretched awful experience at Harrisburg twice.
Hope that helps some! Good luck!

I went/go to Cumberland Valley OB/GYN in Mechanicsburg (after going to the Fertility Center in York for the first weeks). I was very happy with the care I received throughout my pregnancy. They give the option to deliver at Harrisburg or Holy Spirit. I delivered at Holy Spirit and was extremely happy with my experience. The nurses were great and very supportive and I felt very comfortable there.
