Problems with ovulation before IUI

Hey guys! I'm new to this site and i'm looking for some support and positive words. My partner and I are just starting out on our journey with TTC. I tracked my ovulation in November and got a positive OPK on the 17th day of a 27 day cycle. I was supposed to test again in December but we were on a family trip to Disney World during my ovulation time and I didn't test. Now for the month of January I hadn't shown a positive with an OPK and had a scheduled visit with my doctor. She did blood work and showed that my progesterone levels were low so I actually didn't ovulate at all in January.

Just wondering if any of you had trouble with ovulation and ended up with a successful pregnancy. If anyone had trouble with ovulation and took clomid, or anything else that helped them along i'd love to hear your stories.

I will be testing again every month with an OPK and also blood work to check but i'm just getting worried since this month I didn't ovulate. My doctor plans on starting me on clomid in April so I am eager to know if anyone else has had similar problems like this.

Thanks for the information in advance, and good luck to all you future Moms :)

Re: Problems with ovulation before IUI

  • I'm new to this site too and TTC for the first time! I've also had my own share of hormonal imbalances and from what I've read women sometimes don't ovulate for a month and it is totally normal, especially if you were traveling, sick, or stressed. The best thing to do is track your fertility signs (especially BBT, cervical fluids and positioning to confirm ovulation) for several months to get a better idea of the consistency of your ovulation cycle.  The good news is that there are many things you can try, such as clomid and other hormone therapies.  I'm trying acupuncture, supposedly people have had a lot of success with Traditional Chinese Medicine and fertility, I have a local community clinic which provides very affordable services. Two books I constantly reference are Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler and The New Guide to Lesbian Conception, Pregnancy, and Birth. I'm sure there are many other excellent books out there.  Good luck on your journey!

  • Thanks for the information! I am not sure if there are places near me who offer acupuncture. I will definitely look into it later on if what my doctor suggest doesn't work. Good luck with everything, sending baby dust your way :)
  • Clomid might definitely be your quick and simple magic ticket!

Unmedicated I have really out of whack cycles, but clomid immediately gets me cycling and ovulating regularly.

     Good luck!

  • Thank you for the info! I'm sure hoping clomid in my golden ticket :)
