sharing a room..

we're currently in a 3 bedroom house, but ds still sleeps in our room... his room is basically the "guest" room at the moment and our 3rd bedroom belongs to our inlaws, who basically visit every 2 weeks or so.

anyway, we're working on moving ds to his own room and will have #2 in our room for a long time, hopefully  not quite as long as ds has been in there, but it will probably be a while.

how young is too young for siblings to share a room?  they'll be roughly 2 years apart, and i figure even if #2 is a girl, they could realistically share a room for a few years anyway...  and if #2 is a boy then it could be a more long term thing until we get the inlaw room back as our own.

so any tips on kids sharing a room?  or kids whose room is also the guest room and you have frequent company?  we currently have a full size bed in ds's "room" and planned on leaving it in there and transitioning him to that at some point.

Re: sharing a room..

  • My SIL just moved her girls into bunk beds in the same room.  The youngest just turned 2 and the oldest will be 5 in May.  From what I hear, there hasn't been a whole lot of sleeping going on in there at night LOL but it seems to be going okay overall!

  • I shared a room with my sister from when she was born (I'm guessing on this - I'll have to ask my mom what the actual arrangement was when she was a baby).  I have no memories of sharing at a really young age, so I suppose it must have been fine.  I do remember that we had twin beds, but we pushed them together all the time so we could share a big bed.  Eventually my parents got us a queen bed that we shared until we wanted our own space.  :P

LOL at what crescent said about not a lot of sleeping going on.  I know we drove our parents crazy by staying up late talking and giggling at night.

If there was a "like" button, I'd like this! My sister and I were the same way. We shared a room from the beginning (when she was born). We are 19 months apart, but I remember her in a crib in our room. I'd climb in to "read" to her. I am sure my mom loved that. LOL. Sharing a room was awesome and I think it helped us be super close and play well together.

  • My sister has all her 4 kids in one room. They are 9, 5, 4 and 2. They all get along pretty well and know they are supposed to sleep and not play. They have been in different rooms over the years, but the little one started sharing when he was a few months old.

  • My girls have shared a room from day 1.  and from the time Jeremiah was 18mon-2 years they all 3 shared a room.  Yes there are nights where there is some playing going on instead of sleeping, but most of the time its ok.  In fact I think the girls listen better in the same room then Jeremiah does in his own room, but that might be more because of the ages.
