Is anyone here from northwestern PA?

I know this the Pittsburgh board, but was just curious if anyone who frequents the board is from Northwestern PA. I live in Venango County, about 2 hours north of Pittsburgh and 1.5 hours from Erie.

We live in a rural area, and I've been looking for a breastfeeding/lactation class to take somewhere since our hospital doesn't offer one. Does anyone have recommendations? TIA

I live in Mercer County :)  I would check around at different hospitals even if they're a little outside your area because it's worth going to one if you're planning on BFing.  It might be a longer drive for ya to go to the class, but it may only be once or twice that you'd have to go to it.  I took one at my local hospital with my first, and it was only one session of a couple hours or something like that, but felt it was definitely worthwhile and helped me know what to expect.

When I was pregnant with my first child I lived in Meadville while my husband finished his Bachlors at Penn State Behrend (I went to Edinboro).  Now I'm in Pittsburgh because my husband is attenting Uni of Pitt for Grad school.

I was born in raised in the Meadville area and my husband spent most of his life in the Erie area.

As for classes I know Meadville Medical offers lactation classes.  And WIC offices tend to offer access to lactation coaches.

I am in venango county too - both grove city and clarion hospitals have lactation consultants. I had a lot of trouble at first and went to both, plus one in Pittsburgh where I gave birth. I go to a moms group at clarion hospital for bfing moms and it's nice.

I live in New Castle and took a bfing class at Jameson Hospital, with a nurse named Phyllis.

Call the maternity ward of your hospital and they should be able refer you to the lactation specialist.  https://www.upmc.com/HospitalsFacilities/Hospitals/Northwest/patients-visitors/Pages/having-baby.aspx

I took a class and it really helped.  I nursed and pumped for 13months and am happy to listen if you have any questions.  Good Luck:).
