Wondering what to do...My husband and I do not plan to find out what we are having. This is the first child that we are expecting (miscarrried twins in June and July 2010) I am currantly 17w1d along. So as most of you know...we would obviously be starting from scratch and need all the things for baby. We are debating if it would be best to have it first because we are in need if all the items or wait until after so that the shower can be gender directed! The other option was to find out what the gender is...but that is no fun ![]()
Thank you for your thoughts!
Re: When to have the baby shower?
sorry about your losses.
we do not plan on finding out the sex either, but plan to register for gender neutral items so we can use them again for our second baby.
The stuff that you really need would be gender neutral so finding out the sex shouldn't really effect that. You'll probably get gift cards that you can use to buy gender specific clothing with.
We are not finding out and will have a shower around 30 weeks.
I'm so sorry for your losses.
I would register for gender neutral items and gift cards, and then I'd have my shower before the baby gets here. Gender neutral items are great for being used for the next LO, and then you'll have some gift cards to go out and get cute stuff after the baby is here!
Good luck!
I am sorry for your losses.
We didn't find out with DS and still have all his gender neutral stuff. With this baby, we're using all of that stuff. Its probably best to do that. There's a lot of cute gender neutral stuff out there. If you wait til after the baby is born, you may not have everything you need. Then you'd have to run out and buy it yourself so there wouldn't be much of a need for it at a shower.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
I think two months prior is a good time (around 30-33 weeks).
BFP #3 via cancelled IUI ~ C (2lb 3oz; HELLP) 5/16/11
BFP #4 via the natural (free!) way ~ E (8lb 11oz) 9/13/12
You could purchase the necessary items for a newborn yourself (bassinet, co-sleeper, moses basket etc., simple clothing, feeding stuff...) and have the shower soon after the birth.
Or, register for gender neutral items only, and hten purchase your gender specific clothes and other items yourself afterwards. The nice thing about us having babies when we are is just 6 months or so afterwards, is Christmas! Every 6 months the baby will get a new round of clothes and items from family. Pretty convenient! Any of the big stuff that you want to wait to purchase becasue of gender, i.e. large furniture, crib bedding, decor, and other items, you could wait on those until Christmas time.
I'm so sorry about your losses, but congrats for your LO on the way!
Honestly, you can have your shower as late as you want. Like others, you can register for gender neutral items with no issues.
I have to travel for one of my showers, so that will be in May when I am 32.5 weeks along. My friends have discussed a shower for me here where we live, and that one is supposed to be in June, probably 2 or 3 weeks before the baby is due.
