When to start tummy time?

When is it recommended to start tummy time exercises?  I can't remember when I did it with my DD.  One month?  Two months?

 Thanks-

Re: When to start tummy time?

  • My pedi said as soon as the umbilical stump falls off to start it.

  • Right away!  We started it pretty much right away, mostly with DD laying on our chest on her tummy.

  • We started right away with the boys laying on our chests. Around a month I'd put them in the lay and play for some quick tummy time. Nothing too long but just enough to get some in.
  • As soon as the umbillical cord stump falls off.

  • We started around 2 weeks she didnt like it at first but she's warming up to it now.

  • We were told to start as early as possible. For us, it was about 5 days old before we were home and remembered to do it as a deliberate act, versus him doing it out of instinct while laying on one of us, which we'd done since birth.

  • We started right away with her lying on our chests. Our pedi said to start tummy time early but with no expectations or goals - just do it for fun. We started with her mat at 2 weeks old, I think. By that time she could already lift her head a bit to look to the other side. She really strenthened her neck muscles while lying on our chests and shoulders though (esp during crying fits! Lol).
