Tummy time & Crawling

If my DD hates tummy time (cries immediately when I put her on her tummy), will she still learn how to crawl?  I definitely have one of those LO's that do other milestones before the ones that come before them.  For example, she's been standing, sitting, and cal almost pull herself up to stand before rolling over.  She's rolled over a total of one time in her life, and I just don't think she'll ever be a roller.  Anyway, I'm just worried about her starting to crawl if she never likes to be on her tummy.  Anyone else have an LO like this?

  • I might be a bad mom, but I leave my DD on her belly for a little bit even when she does not like it. I figure that will motivate her to learn to crawl faster or at least roll over to her back if she wants.

  • My son was never a big fan of tummy time either and he is a crawler now. He got into crawling position by sitting up and reaching for toys that were out of reach and falling onto his hands and knees. Don't worry about it, she'll get there in her own time! Now that DS is crawling and getting into absolutely everything, I wonder why I was ever in such a hurry for him to hit this milestone!

I agree with this.  My DD is 7 1/2 months and she could not stand being on her tummy.  We gradually built her time on her tummy up so she would get used to it and now she's starting to get up on her knees and rock in place.  Even if you can get two minutes on the tummy, it's really important.

    Good luck!

This is my son exactly! he has NEVER rolled over..but he was able to sit up at 4 months, and LOVES to stand.

The doctor showed me some excersices to help with tummy time, pretty much what PP suggested - get them on thier knees and rock..
