Biting

Miller has taken to this nasty habit!  I have a bruise on my shoulder that is throbbing.  How do you stop them from doing this?

Egg retrieval 2/27 - 27 eggs, 24 mature, 19 fertilized
Embryo transfer 3/4 - 2 beautiful, hatching blasts and nothing left to freeze.  Beta #1 461 9dp5dt. Beta #2 1230 11dp5dt.

    Margaux bit me once, hard, on the shoulder, but hasn't done it since.  I wish I knew what stopped her, maybe I taste bad?

    Sorry, wish I had advice!

    I have no advice. M isn't much of a biter, but he does bite. When he does I try to maintain my cool through the pain and explain to him calmly why we don't bite.

    S bites me constantly, never DH.  I think babies/toddlers do it out of frustration over teething and/or inability to communicate.  He also bites my back when I'm wearning him in the Beco and that sucks because he's strapped to me so I can't get away!  Just put Miller down immediately and say "no biting".  It doesn't work for us, but that's all we can do.  I don't believe in biting them back, that's old school discipline.

    The couple of times C's bitten me, I've yelled so loudly out of suprise that he kinda got scared and looked at me with big, puppy dog eyes.

    And I currently have two big nasty bruises on my right shoulder, too!!  One's been there for over a week and is three different colors!

    Oh that's easier to fix...they do that when they're done nursing or when they're getting bored or you're not paying attention to them while nursing; just anticipate when Ada is done and pull her off the boob before she bites.  We went through that phase too...no fun!

    At this point he is still too little and you can't punish him, take him to his room, explain etc. Just put him down and say in a serious tone of the voice: "we don't bite". Don't show him you are hurting and keep your cool.

    We just redirect since Keegan thinks it is funny to bite.  He does not do it out of frustration.  We ignore & redirect & he usually stops - no reaction is better.  It does not help that his older brothers laugh at everything he does.

    This! His bite scared the crap out of me and I screamed. He looked at me as if I broke his heart. Fortunately, he hasn't biten me since.

    Good luck with Miller. I think the only thing you can do is put him down and with a serious face/voice say "no biting" and it "hurts mommy".

    I just asked the pedi about this Monday at L's one year appt. She said the worst punishment for them at this age is to not have our attention. Her suggestion was to tell him "No biting" in a firm voice, set him on the ground and walk away for a couple minutes.

    We've only been trying it for two days now, but the bruise on my shoulder says that it must take longer for the message to sink in... :(

    DD#1 bit me while nursing and it hurt and scared me so bad I actually yelled and pulled her off. She never bit me again and still kept nursing like a champ for months afterward.

    DD#1 also used to bite me on the neck if she was getting tired, cranky, scared, etc. I would just tell her no biting and put her down so she knew that biting meant no attention.
