Perineal Aftercare Tip — The Bump

Perineal Aftercare Tip

I just thought I'd share -

I remember when I gave birth in the hospital, one of the nurses packed a newborn diaper full of ice & gave it to me for my sore perineum.

This time around I filled condoms with 3 parts water & 1 part rubbing alcohol, tied them up & froze them. The alcohol keeps them from becoming solid, so you have a slushy ice pack. Then take the newborn size diaper & open it up like a chip bag on the tab end. Stuff in the condom & you have a absorbable ice pack! Perfect sized for the sore parts.

Re: Perineal Aftercare Tip

  • You can do the same thing with a menstrual pad instead of a condom - it will absorb the mixture (you can also use witch hazel, to reduce inflammation) and then after it freezes it will slowly melt against your skin.

ETA: I would not use alcohol if you are putting it directly against your tender skin though! Stick with the witch hazel and water in that case.

  • The witch hazel pads were the best!  I called them coochie coolers.

  • Yes, I just bought some Tucks pads soaked in witch hazel.  They were great.  I put them over my pad.

  • Great ideas. Now if only I remember them in 6 months!
  • The Dermoplast that was provided by my hospital was also heavenly.
