17 weeks and spotting...ugh

Had a big panic attack at work today when I had quite a bit of brown spotting. Called the doctor's office and they wanted to see me right after work. Thankfully they found the h/b right away and it was 145-150 (don't think she could get a good reading because I was crying hysterically). She said it might be an issue with a low lying placenta. I have my anatomy scan next week so they will look at it then. I also might have a UTI. Yay. Anyone else have spotting this late?

  • I'm so sorry you had that happen, I'm glad the baby has that strong heart beat going to let you know he/she is doing just fine! Fingers crossed for you that your anatomy scan goes really, really well next week! :)

  • My sister spotted at 18 weeks quite a bit. It scared her and she spent the night in the hospital. Everything looked good and they never figured out why she was spotting. Just take it easy, keep your feet up and stay positive! T & P to you!
  • I'm glad your LO is ok!  GL on your anatomy scan.

Take it easy and try not to get caught up in your mind.  I know it will seem like a long wait until the anatomy scan but try to stay positive.

  • I'm not as far along as you but I had brown spotting during my 13th week.  The doctor did an us and everything looked fine.  She told me that sometimes women spot and we don't ever know the reason.  From what I read, brown spotting is old blood.  I have read that sometimes there is old blood in the body that needs to pass so that may be just it.  I know it's not easy to relax about things but everything is most likely ok.  Good luck!
  • I had spotting last week (at 16 weeks). It was so scary! But the doc checked and everything was fine. Had my regular appointment this morning and everything is still good! I had spotting in my first tri from 7 weeks until the end, but this was the first spotting I have had in the second tri, hopefully the ONLY spotting in the second tri! It is super stressful, but as long as baby's heart is beating and he/she is growing, thats all I can ask for!

Sorry you were spotting too, it does really stink! But glad to hear everything sounds ok!

  • Ugh... I can only imagine what you're feeling. I have no experience except what I've read here on the bump. Not to be all puppies and rainbows but at this point in your pregnancy, it seems like it's usually nothing. Please rest up honey. I'm so sorry you have to go through this.
  • I'm sorry you're going through this. I haven't experienced any spotting this pregnancy, so unfortunately I don't have much advice to offer in this department. However, I will keep you and your LO in my T&Ps.  ((Hugs))

  • Yes. I have had spotting.

    All is fine, too.

I have a low lying placenta (as of now, hopefully it will shift.) and also my OB said the cervix tissue lining (I could be off w/ her exact wording) is extremely sensitive, so if you strain (think BM) or have sex, it could irritate.
