February 2011 Moms

A little worried about the blizzard.

Today is 10 days before my due date (11 according to my ticker, but my MW goes by Feb 11th, while my US tech said Feb 12th).  Anyhow, my mom gave birth to both my sister and I exactly 10 days early.  Not that her births determine my births, but that would just be my luck because we are expecting up to 2 feet of snow in a short period of time in what they say will be 'life threatening' conditions with power outages and all kinds of mess.  I was going to make DH have sex with me last night, but decided it was not a good time to start trying to make things move!

Oddly enough,  the main thing I keep thinking about is where I put the snot sucky ball that I have :)  In my head right now, that's the most important thing for me to find in the rare event that she should be born at home.  Ha :)  I think I need to find it before I go crazy.

Re: A little worried about the blizzard.

  • I am with you on this one.  I had my first timeable contractions last night and DH was getting really nervous about having to drive me through this weather.  Thankfully he is working from home today just in case anything were to happen, but this weather is a bit crazy in our neck of the woods.  I was hoping today would be the worst, because I am supposed to work tomorrow, but I've heard tomorrow is going to be even worse than today.

  • I'm in the same boat pretty much. 14 days from my due date which is a little unnerving. I'm planning on relaxing as much as possible and keeping my fingers crossed. Good luck to you!

  • I have to admit, I'm a little worried for you ladies that are expecting the storm - I have heard it's going to be really bad and I think you are definitely right to be concerned. I really, really hope at least the ladies who are affected by the storm can make it through until conditions are safe again.

  • As soon as we found out our official due date (back in July 2010), I told DS, "just watch, we'll have a blizzard when the baby decides to come."  (In the past few years in West MI, the very beginning of Feb. has been notorious for a huge snow storm or blizzard.)  I'm not due until 2/14, so I'm not too worried about DD coming early, but you never know.  This is the first time I haven't wanted her to come early!

  • I know how you feel! I'm not due until the 20th, but we live a ways outside our town and have a very long, unpaved driveway. It has always been DH's fear that our car will get stuck in the driveway when I'm in labor!
I woke up feeling a bit crampy today and told DH it would just figure that I would go into labor in the next few days. We are expecting 16-20" of snow between today and tomorrow, DH has a sinus infection and my mom is on vacation until Sunday in San Diego! Not the ideal situation!

  • So my OB just cancelled my appointment for tomorrow because they are closing their office up.  I called my boss to confirm it was okay to move my appointment to the time they wanted it on Friday, and he said they were calling all of my outpatients for tomorrow (as well as the rest of the departments) and asking the clients if they wanted to cancel/reschedule.  So he calls me back an hour or two later, and out of the 6 clients I have (one middle aged guy who could probably get in okay, but one elderly lady and four children) ONE wanted to move the time an hour later (from 7:00 to 8:00) and NO ONE wants to cancel.  Are these people nuts?  Seriously.  I kind of find it rude that they all know I'm due in a week and they still wanted to keep their times knowing that if they come in, I have to come in to see them and deal with not ending up in a ditch and having this baby on the side of the road.  Ugh.  This drives me crazy.  Thankfully, DH is working from home again tomorrow so he will try and drive me in, but if it is scary, I am going to tell him to turn the car around and we will just go home and they can all get cancelled.  Seriously people, you want to bring your elderly family members and small children out in this for a therapy appointment?  Working on the /th/ sound can wait a week....

The end of this made me laugh :)

It's so crazy in Chicago right now and most things are already closed for tomorrow.  I can't believe your clients didn't want to cancel!

Yeah, my parents live in NW IN and they have been sending me pictures all night of how much snow they've gotten, I think they said to this point it is at least two feet, maybe more.  My dad's hospital set up cots for the employees who couldn't get home last night.  It is scary up there!
